Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Davis.
Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started singing in elementary school being apart of the chorus. Around 4th or 5th grade, I got scouted to be apart of the Area II honors chorus. Before you know it I was leading solo’s traveling around Atlanta always performing. Had no idea who Glenda Hatchett was until I got older and realized I was chosen out of hundreds of kids to sing for her to be sworn in as the first African American chief judge of state court. I went on to continue singing throughout middle school as well as auditioning to attend North Atlanta High School of the performing arts where I received amazing training and skills to hone in on my craft.
There I met two young ladies and we formed a girl group called NiFaZae, we travels around Atlanta singing and winning every single competition we entered. Every Sunday morning you could catch us in someone church, singing an A and B selection never forgetting where our gifts came from. We were so blessed to sing for the likes of many great people of Atlanta such as John Lewis, Chief Eldrin Bell, and Mayor Andrew Young just to name a few. After High School, I was determine to become a professional international performer. It took great focus, trail, and error but I never gave up. In May 2010, I started my journey as an international vocalist with a company called E-live where I provide entertainment with six other musicians in 5/6 star hotels in some of the most beautiful hotels across the globe. I’ve been blessed to travel to four of the seven continents in the past nine years as well as aboard The Carnival Fantasy cruise ship this past October.
I’ve performed in Beijing, China twice, Singapore, Malaysia, Bahamas, Mexico, Canada, Dubai Ethiopia, And London to name a few. In 2017 I stepped from behind the shadows of all the other bands I had performed with and decided to launch my own band and brand “The NeekoMya Experience” where we are currently performing in and around the city weekly in some pretty great spots located midtown, downtown, and south of Atlanta.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, many ups, and downs to being an entrepreneur. Since I’ve been traveling off and on for the past nine years, then coming back to Atlanta to launch my own band, it’s like you have to prove a point to all the venues that don’t know you. It took me almost a year to get the calls I felt I deserve but I’m so glad I didn’t give up.
The NeekoMya Experience – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a four piece R&B and soul band, providing live entertainment for weddings, corporate parties, birthday parties and any type of event you’d want to have a great time. I’m proud of all of my international travels, I’m proud of being selected to be apart of the 1996 Olympics opening and closing ceremonies right here in Atlanta. What sets me apart from others is I’m naturally blessed with this talent, never took a voice lesson in my life. I’m authentic and I will forever remain true to my gifts and talents.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is never giving up on your dreams, success is always staying true to your gifts and talents. Never taking No for an answer. My criteria is to never measure your level of success up against someone else. Stay focus and by any means necessary get the job done.
