Meet Nicole Dove of Urban Girl Corporate World in Vinings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Dove.

Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts on Wall Street, and if someone had told me I’d host a podcast that would reach listeners across five continents in less than 30 days, I would have thought they were joking! The Urban Girl Corporate World podcast is a collective of honest conversations with my peers, mentors, business partners and friends about our professional challenges and triumphs. My career spans a variety of opportunities including Wall Street investment banking right out of college, voiceover work on two Grant Theft Auto video game titles, living abroad as an expat in Romania, being a featured speaker at Yale University, serving as CFO of a tech startup, doing service work in Malawi and so much more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor, and there was never a smooth sailing moment! Every opportunity came with its own struggle. Graduating from Clark Atlanta University, an HBCU, and immediately being thrust into the very white and male-led investment banking industry was extremely perplexing. Each space has its own set of rules. I grew up in the inner city of Newark, NJ, where our code was nothing like that of any corporate culture, so you can imagine that the two didn’t mix. I had HR called on me plenty of times for popping off on my peers. I had to quickly learn to adjust & be strategic, all while remaining true to self.

Tell us about Urban Girl Corporate World.
The Urban Girl Corporate World podcast was created, first, as a love letter to my younger self, with its content inspired by something I wish I knew when I first started my career journey.

On each episode, my guests and I reflect on our journeys to success so that the listeners can win bigger, faster and sooner than we did. My guests include executives from Amazon & IBM, an Obama Administration White House Senior Advisor, alum from Wharton, Columbia and Harvard, millionaires, moguls, international creatives and public servants.

I have yet to see a space that honors the experiences of my demographic and recognizes our contributions to the global economy. I am so moved by hearing from listeners across the world who’ve shared how my platform inspired them to pursue their dreams, reconsider their paths and change their perspectives. I am most proud of being a digital creator who has connected to the experiences of a global audience of dreamers and winners, inspiring them to think bigger and execute.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very talkative, curious child who was fascinated with understanding how things work and enjoyed reading maps. Looking back, what seemed an odd combination now all ties together as what I do centers around exploring journeys and unpacking success secrets.
