Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Salas
Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where it was always just my mother and me. I am a proud Peruvian-American and a first-generation college student, currently attending Georgia State University. This May, I will be graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
From a young age, I was fascinated by America’s Next Top Model and loved performing for my family—whether it was modeling, singing, or dancing. Recognizing my passion, my mother enrolled me in modeling and acting classes at the age of eight and again when I was eleven. It was during this time that one of my instructors introduced me to the world of pageantry. Excited by the opportunity, I competed in my very first pageant—and won. That experience opened the door to an incredible journey in the fashion and pageant industries.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with renowned designers such as Terani Couture, Lisa Nicole Cloud, Wilfredo Gerardo, and many more. I’ve also walked for major productions, including Fashion Designers of Latin America, Flying Solo, Art Hearts Fashion, and Atlanta Fashion Week. At just 14 years old, I was given the opportunity to become a modeling instructor at the same place where I once was trained as a student. To this day, I continue to teach both modeling and pageantry, helping aspiring models refine their skills and build confidence.
In November 2024, I took on a new challenge by competing in my first pageant as a Miss and was honored to win the title of America’s Ideal Miss Southern States under the America’s Ideal Miss organization. This organization is dedicated to engaging, inspiring, and celebrating young women by providing an exceptional pageant experience that showcases their strengths and prepares them for the stages of life ahead.
Most recently, I launched Vast Models, a modeling agency dedicated to helping models get booked and providing them with the development and training needed to thrive in the fashion industry. My journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and growth, and I’m excited to continue making an impact in the world of fashion and pageantry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As a child, I was diagnosed with ADHD, which made school challenging. While my classmates took language courses, I was placed in extra-help classes, struggling to keep up. At one point, I was told I would have to repeat a grade, but with the support of my mother and a few dedicated teachers, I worked hard and proved them wrong. By eighth grade, I was allowed to take the exit exam—and passed. In high school, I excelled in AP and honors courses and even studied French for three years, defying the expectations placed on me.
On top of my academic struggles, I was also bullied—because I learned differently, because I was chasing big dreams, and simply because I was tall. I often felt like I didn’t belong. But instead of letting it break me, I used it as motivation to push forward.
Professionally, the challenges were just as tough. My mother and I spent four years without a car, making it difficult to get to castings, fashion shows, and pageants. Since she didn’t speak English fluently and I was still a child, navigating the industry was overwhelming. But despite everything, my mother never let me give up, and neither did I.
Every hardship—academic, personal, and professional—made me stronger, but I wouldn’t have made it without my mother’s love and sacrifices. She worked tirelessly to ensure I had every opportunity, even when the odds were against us. She is my biggest inspiration, my greatest supporter, and the reason I am where I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
One of the best ways to find a mentor and build your network is by attending local events and connecting with everyone. Industry events, fashion shows, and networking mixers are great opportunities to meet professionals who can offer guidance and open doors for you. Never underestimate the power of a simple introduction—every conversation could lead to a valuable connection.
What has worked well for me is putting myself out there, being open to learning, and building genuine relationships. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek advice, and stay in touch with the people you meet. The more you engage with your industry, the more opportunities will come your way.
