Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Theodore.
Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello! I am the founding and managing partner of The Theodore Firm. I am a proud 2004 graduate of The Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, having earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in International Affairs with a concentration in Spanish. My first job out of college was working as a probation officer handling adult misdemeanor offenses in Georgia’s Gwinnett and Clayton counties, followed by time spent working for the Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Atlanta. After three years spent working in the court system, I was fortunate enough to follow my dream of attending law school and earned my Juris Doctor degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 2010. I was admitted to practice law in the State of Georgia in 2011 and then admitted to practice in the United States Federal District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in 2012, followed by admission to the Supreme Court of Georgia in November 2018.
While in law school, I was hand-selected as a faculty research assistant during her first year. I also completed an externship at the Fulton County Public Defender’s Office, representing indigent clients under Georgia’s Third Year Practice Act in Fulton County Superior Court. While in law school, I served as a general member, Treasurer, and ultimately was elected President of the Avarita Hanson Chapter of the Black Law Students Association.
Immediately after law school, I gained valuable experience and knowledge in the fields of entertainment, corporate and federal appellate law.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia into an Air Force family, I have lived on both coasts of the United States, and am also fluent in Spanish. I enjoy worshipping at 12 Stone Church in Snellville, Georgia. In what spare time I do have, I enjoy both watching and attending football games (my favorite sport), spending time with family, and traveling with my husband Rodney. Ultimately, I feel extremely blessed to be able to practice the profession I love, and to use my gifts and talents to uplift, assist and encourage my community.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has most definitely not been smooth! And looking back on it, I’m glad it wasn’t. Halfway through law school was the 2008 recession, and at one point, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to finish because the bank that was servicing my loans went out of business. Needless to say, the challenges continued after graduation because at that time not many law firms were hiring due to the recession. Thankfully, I was able to persevere and become gainfully employed, but it was definitely a stressful time for everyone.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance. Without a doubt. I’ve seen over the years so many people with really great ideas, but just gave up too soon. It’s not going to be easy, it’s not supposed to be. But those who can stick it out through a hard time will generally reap greater rewards than they ever could imagine.
