Meet Nigel Summers of Hbcu Threads in Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nigel Summers.

Nigel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since graduating from Alabama A&M University in 2009, I wanted a way to show my school spirit without saying a word. Unimpressed with the merchandise I found in stores for my school and other HBCUs I decided to launch HBCU THREADS. Shortly after launching HBCU THREADS I have seen there was a need for exclusive Greek wear for Black fraternities and sororities as well, I use to always make items for my fraternity and after several people kept asking do I make items for other fraternities and sororities.I decided to add that as well under the HBCU THREADS catalog. Each design has been well received from my network of current HBCU students, alumni, athletes, as well as fraternity and sorority members.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a smooth ride thus far, the only thing I may say that it was difficult in the beginning was meeting the demand of all the orders I received, once the orders came they came in by the masses. I wanted to get my merch out there so bad that I was over working myself trying ship items out as soon as they came in. Running to the post office every hour on the hour. Now I have the system set up in schedule when items ship, etc.

Please tell us about your business.
