Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikkian Scharschmidt.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for girly things and fashion, realizing my sense of creativity and style at an early age. I would always watch my mother do her makeup and ask questions. When I finally made it to high school, I used to wake her up every morning and ask her to do my eyeliner. Even though she’d complain, she’d still do it. Eventually, she told me I had to learn how to do my own eyeliner. Little did she know, she opened up the biggest door for me right then and there. Not only did I learn how to apply eyeliner, but I also taught myself mostly everything I wanted to learn about makeup. I began wearing very little makeup that I did myself, and my peers loved it! That’s when it all started.
I started my business doing makeup back in 2013, my sophomore year of high school. I was doing my friends’ faces for free while charging others only about $20 for a full face. It was never for the money but more so because I enjoyed playing in makeup. It became my passion. However, I never really took it that seriously until I graduated and attended college in 2015. I began studying business management and felt extremely encouraged and motivated being surrounded by hundreds of other entrepreneurs. I had a craft and I wanted to perfect it. I stopped attending school so I can express my artistic sense in a more positive manner and expand my business. I became certified doing mink lash extensions as well as brow microblading and in February of 2017, my business launched as “Nik’s Glam Palace.”
Has it been a smooth road?
Well, it definitely wasn’t smooth at first. The beginning stage of starting your own business is never smooth though. An entrepreneur takes a LOT of financial risks in order to run a business and these risks may succeed, or they may fail. However, it’s essential one goes through these challenges and obstacles in order to overcome the difficulties that come with being a business owner. Building clientele, figuring out a brand name, how you would like to promote your brand and get exposure, what kind of audience will your brand target? etc.
For me, my biggest struggle was staying motivated throughout the years. Sometimes I felt as though I wouldn’t get the credit I deserved. Or that there were “too many” other makeup artists doing exactly what I do. But that’s what pushes me harder to this day. Quality over quantity matters! It’s not about how many people are doing it, it’s about who’s doing it the best. Once you have a passion for something, nobody can take that away from you.
Find your passion and God will handle the rest.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

A movement meant not only to make you feel beautiful but to encourage girls of ALL races all over that beauty first comes from within! Remember that you’re you, what works for you may not work for someone else. You all have different features and different skin types. Different, but beautiful in your own way. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Atlanta is a great place for starting out with businesses like mine. The city is still upcoming and is very commercial like filled with celebrities and stars. It’s easy to network and get the right amount of exposure simply because there are so many other entrepreneurs as well.
