Meet Nina Clay of Nina Nova Sells in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Clay.

Nina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion for Real Estate began in 2003, shortly after graduating high school. I was debating on going to college but also wanted to start my RE career. I had a hard time finding Real Estate schools around that time, so I didn’t know where to begin or get guidance. In 2008, I got a position as a leasing agent by referral. All the previous times I applied for leasing jobs, I wouldn’t get the job because I had no experience, so I was so excited for the opportunity. I always had a passion for helping people but I finally realized how I can help people and enjoy doing it. I feel in love with showing apartments, helping current residents and leasing. My original plan was to work my way up the ladder to become Property Manager, then regional manager.

Then I could branch out as an independent Real Estate Agent. I did become a Property Manager but left the job due to discrimination issues and was granted unemployment with full benefits. Leaving property management was stressful, so I decided to explore another passion of cosmetology. I went to college, got my license and opened a salon. Once my salon got to a point where it could make money without working myself, I decided to go go to school for my RE license. I had been following a childhood friend on IG and she inspired me to go for it! She is now my mentor; her name is Nedra McKinley. I am only a year in and it has been nothing but exciting and fulfilling. I love what I do and my people are my passion! I work with clients that want to buy, sell, invest, and rent. I’m looking forward to growing more and more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, getting into the business took a while because initially, I didn’t have any guidance. Going to Real Estate school was challenging because I went from a hairstylist/salon owner to full-time student. The test was challenging but I refused to give up. I knew what I wanted and was determined to get her no matter what. Another goal is to show my daughters that entrepreneurial careers are possible.

Current challenge: learning all I can and being prepared. It’s common for agents to come in the business without training. I am getting all the knowledge I can by paying for education as an investment and help from my mentor.

Alright – so let’s talk business.  What else should we know about you and your career so far?
Nina Nova Sells specializes in the client that has real estate needs. I assist my clients with buying, selling, investing, and renting in Georgia. My people are my passion!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Christmas! Family gatherings, especially with my closest sibling that passed away at a young age. I love to reminisce.
