Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisha Glenn, Troy, Tawana Flowers and Montrella Hollbrook.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The vision and goal of being an entrepreneur and working with girls has always been a passion growing up. However, never having the faith to step out on faith hindered me from the opportunity to pursue those goals. It was not until I was laid off from my job at Verizon Wireless and relocated to Atlanta, GA. That was really the first time I completed stepped out on faith. Moving to a new city with two small children was definably life-changing. Shortly after relocating to Atlanta, I was laid off again and was offered another relocation opportunity to Chicago Il; I had no desire to uproot my family again, So I stepped out on faith again and decided to create my own destiny. I decided to advance my education and receive a Master’s Degree in Education.
Inspired by my dream for entrepreneurship, I open “Stitches Boutique,” a women’s clothing and accessory boutique in Atlanta midtown; however, in my heart, I felt there was something more for me to offer young girls and women. Her passion was to enrich and empower the lives of middle and high school age young girls with the necessary resources to further their education, which led to the establishment of “Educated Girls Rock.” The Mantra of the organization is for girls and young women to understand and claim their power in life through self-awareness and their ability to be great. It is my desire that all girls, young women and women adopt the philosophy: “I am capable of being educated, I am excited about learning and I am committed to excellence. Additionally, to forming my organization, I had the idea that every girl should want to see themselves in a cap and gown. Having to overcome several obstacles and adversities of my own, I understood the challenges of graduating under pressure and beating the odds to graduate, especially on time. I love graduations; I love the feeling of the accomplishment of being able to say, “I DID IT” and I EARNED IT. Walking across a stage and receiving a certificate, diploma or degree, is a sense of hard work, perseverance, and determination.
I have been able to use my platform and inspire girls and women across the world. Over the years, I have provided workshops, seminars, college tours and scholarships to girls and young women. My main program I called “Fight To Focus, Fighting to Focus is an initiative to help motivate students through the distractions and pressures of being a student in school. Accountability, Adversity, and Academics are all of obstacles students face while attending school. One of my goals is to expand this program throughout schools.
Adding another credential to my name, I decided to try the Faith thing once again and became an Author I wrong my fist book called “Say Hello To My Little Friend Revenge, based upon my organization called “Educated Girls Rock and cyberbullying. I also recently decided to start a new apparel and product brand called Educated Girl, “Educated Girl is a brand that strives to promote the untouchable value of education through apparel and more. Education is a woman’s most important accessory because it sets her up for a bright future. With a strong educational foundation accompanied with her own unique ambition, this brand is for every high-achieving girl, young woman, and woman. Educated Girls are powerful, driven, and now achieving their goals in style… what’s not to love?! My vision for the future is to expand the “Educated Girl” brand all across the world. I will never give up, and neither should you. Together, we will rise and achieve even more!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This process has not been smooth at all. In life, you struggle tremendously. But when you are trying to chase your dreams and accomplish goals, there are always going to be roadblocks. I am a strong Believer in God and I continuously stay prayed up. A lot of my struggles has been financially and emotionally. When you are trying to start on a certain journey of self-employment, you struggle. What I have learned throughout the process is that you do not need a lot of money to just start. Nothing worth having is a smooth road, this road I am currently on is bumpy as hell. I am enjoying the ride and will trust the process.
Please tell us about Educated Girls Rock.
My company is a non-profit organization called “Educated Girls Rock” our mission helps prepare girls and young women for the world by empowering and motivating them to continue their education, which will advance their opportunity of becoming successful contributors of society. I specialize in programs such as college tours, workshops, seminars, and various other events to assist students with their educational goals. My company is also known for creating the awareness to girls and young women to see the vision of how important it is to graduate from high school. We instill in them that there is pride and accomplishment in wearing a cap and gown. We inspire them to claim power within through knowledge and self-awareness. I am most of proud of how far I have grown. I have been able to accomplish a lot with a small team.
I honestly believe that my organization separates me apart from others due to my personal story behind the organization. I continue to spread the importance of education and I have adding an apparel and product line to help with my message,
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would probably do a little more research on my target, I think having a business marketing strategy definably plays a big part in how successful your organization or business can me. Also not being afraid to ask other for help. At the beginning, I tried to do everything by myself. I would also ask and seek help from others who are in business. I understand that it truly takes hard work to be successful in business. I have learned to take risk but small risk and grow. I have a lot of common sense. I make sure that I am not being foolish and riskless because those downfalls can lead to stress. I have been there.
