Today we’d like to introduce you to Nivia De Oliveira.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nivia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Brazil and moved to the United States almost 20 years ago. I have 3 beautiful kids and a wonderful husband. I graduated with a bachelor degree in Physical Education, Physiotherapy and worked at a big wellness firm for several years and attending the community involved with the commerce. Coming here was a very good experience. I felt like I found a home. The first few years in the US were very difficult. I didn’t speak English, I didn’t have a high paying job, I had to babysit and clean houses, and be a caregiver. I have always held a passion for the cosmetology and fitness industry and I also had experience too.
However, my priorities were helping my husband take care of the family. Around the time that I really wanted invest in opening up a business my life changed completely. My son was diagnosed with autism at 3 years old. That was the hardest day of my life. Hearing 3 different doctors (specialists) say that your sweet little boy will never speak and that if I was to have another boy he would also be born with autism… I remember feeling devastated, hopeless, and very angry at this mysterious disability. But one day I decided to pick my head up and stop crying and take a stand… I was not going to lose my son to autism.
So at that point in my life, the journey began and my priority was to get the necessary help and support for my son. He went through multiple sessions of hyperbaric therapy, question therapy, and many other intense therapies. I remember joining groups of mothers that were facing the same problem, I researched and studied everything about autism.
A year went by and he was in speech therapy and every time he had a session he would always play with the toy cars and his therapist would always say “Ready, Set, Go”. I will never forget this day, it was June 2005 and my son was exactly 4 years old. We were sitting on the floor with him trying to get a word out of his mouth and the therapist said “ Ready, Set… and for the first time after a year of therapy, he said: “Go”.
That was the happiest day of my life, all 3 of us were jumping and crying and celebrating this wonderful moment. From that day on he never stopped talking. Today he is a happy, intelligent, 13-year-old boy with a great vocabulary. If I had trusted what the doctors said about my son he would not be verbal. I would not be here telling this story. So for anyone that faces any challenge, any problem related to any area of your life, I want you to say: Never give up and always trust God!
So during those 5 years, I had to put my dreams on hold, but in 2010 I decided to pursue my dreams and became a certified fitness trainer, as well as a licensed Esthetician. I have always had a passion in helping people feel their best. I started to brainstorm ways I could incorporate both of those things into one business. That’s when Slim & Clean was born. During my research, with trials and errors with my son, I slowly discovered that the issue was in the unbalanced body chemistry.
As we started the detox process, diet change etc, I noticed that the overall health of the family was also improving!! My Husband lost 9 pounds, everyone’s allergy issues improved, no more hives breakouts because of food sensitivities, and I was shocked. My Husband was amazed with all the good results we were getting that he became an expert in natural supplementation.
For over 10 years we successfully kept the whole family in good shape. We supplement for everything, colon cleansing, mental stability, and a sleeping aid, focus, energy, immune system, and that had kept all of us out of the doctor’s office looking healthy and slim. So then I though to myself, why not share this information with others on how to better their health and physical appearance. In my overall opinion, it’s not about losing one more pound, it’s about finding the root of the problem.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Like any other small business, we faced many challenges at the beginning. But thanks, God, I had built a solid foundation, with wonderful clients.
