Today we’d like to introduce you to Nohemi Rojas
Hi Nohemi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and partially raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, before moving to Atlanta at age 10 in 2001. Growing up in Atlanta during the early 2000s profoundly shaped my sense of creativity because I saw people that looked like me thriving artistically beyond what I saw on TV. I entered the creative scene while attending Georgia State University, joining a modeling organization called Infinite Appeal, which led to modeling gigs and becoming a signed model after graduation.
Despite this, I took a corporate IT analyst job to make my mother proud, as I was the first college graduate in my family as a 2nd generation American (My family is from the Dominican Republic). However, I was unhappy in corporate America and eventually quit without a backup plan. Shortly after quitting, as I walked out of my boss’s office as a matter of fact, I received a call to be a PA in the costumes department at Tyler Perry Studios, launching my career in entertainment.
While at TPS, I discovered new creative outlets and was granted the opportunity to move to LA, where I joined a girl singing group, attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts, and earned a second degree in music production from The Los Angeles Film School. I worked various roles in music and TV, including as an associate producer for reality TV. I returned to Atlanta during the pandemic, focusing on costumes, and I currently work as a TV/film costumer while continuing to model.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all lol. The first couple of months living in LA were among the hardest times of my life. I was originally only supposed to be in LA for a couple of months for school and then return to Atlanta. However, I felt in my spirit that I needed to stay in LA a little longer and honestly, I didn’t have enough money to go back to Atlanta after finishing my program anyways. Instead of asking for help from my family, I took this as a sign from God to figure things out in LA, and I did just that. By the grace of God, I was able to stay at an old college friend’s apartment for six months until I saved enough money to get my own apartment by myself. Although going through that transition was difficult, it was necessary and played a significant role in where I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a commercial model that works as a tv/film costumer but also weaves into many fields in the entertainment industry.
I specialize in contemporary costuming, experiential marketing and modeling.
I am known for many things depending on who you ask lol.
I talk to so many people from all different walks of life working in this industry and I have the opportunity to share how I’ve overcome certain challenges or simply bring a smile to someone’s face and honestly, that is what I am most proud of. Being able to show up each day regardless of the constant feeling of uncertainty this industry brings and being able to set an example of a different way of living.
What sets me apart from others is my unshakable faith in God and my ability to share the joy and peace it brings me. I believe the entertainment industry can be a dark place sometimes, but I feel as though God has me in this industry to be a light in a dark place.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People often see me as well put together and might assume my upbringing was easy, but in reality, I faced many challenges growing up, but those experiences taught me strength and gratitude for my mom, who raised me and my siblings on her own. I appreciate how those experiences shaped who I am today.
