Meet Northside Photographer: Dre Gordon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dre Gordon.

Dre, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My first experience was with Kodak disposable film camera given to me by my grandmother. I was about 7 years old. I didn’t really understand photography at this moment but I believe it’s where I first fell in love with it. Plus it was a great bonding experience with my grandmother and I. I would get them printed at a local pharmacy. It became a hobby for me. Over time I’ve been behind a camera shooting video and stills. Taking photos and home videos of friends as a teen. It wasn’t until I took a real photography course that I actually took it seriously. From there it was staying up late and obsessing over it and really teaching myself how to be a better photographer.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being an artist is never smooth. We all face challenges. I’ve pawned and sold equipment. I’ve traveled across the country with nothing in my pocket. Passion is a mother … This is my story

Has there been people or an institution that has played a pivotal role in your career?
My Grandmother was the only one who pushed me. At one point I was considering selling my equipment. I needed the money desperately. She told me something that day I’ll never forget. She said she knew the joy and fulfillment I got from it. She saw my passion. She said it would be a huge regret. So I stuck with it.

Do you have a favorite type of client or project?
I’m a very edgy individual. I love fashion and music. So anytime I get to work with other creatives I’ll enjoy.

This guy Jason is a absolute liar and a scammer. He booked me and rescheduled twice. Calls me an hr before On a unscheduled day demanding i jump and take photos weeks after the initial shoot was planned and was missed and demands I be there. Unfortunately I was already working another job. I’ve given this man a full refund. I reserve the right to keep my retainer fee. He requested a refund and I’ve delivered that. He has even tried to scam my bank for a charge back after I refunded him his money. I now have a lawyer looking into this matter due to this mans slander and defamation of character.
