Today we’d like to introduce you to Nyisha Bell.
Nyisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started when I was about five maybe six. Mom would say I always had big and wild Imaginations. I already knew what I wanted to be at this age. Many kids would say doctor or firefighter and even a veterinarian. No, not me! I wanted to be a movie star. Too bad, that was all just apart of my big and wild imaginations. I grew up in a small town and the schools here were generic that taught the same curriculum and gave out the same experience, which was be on time, get good grades and you move on to the next grade level. The older I got the less I started to imagine and dream of being a movie star.
My neighborhood didn’t have schools with arts and music or anything that focused on theatre or film. I didn’t get a taste of that until high school. I never joined a play nor got into the film and tv classes because at that time I surrounded myself with small-minded people who believed that being on tv or a movie was a fairytale. I kept my imaginations and dreams to myself. I went to college and I was undecided for a semester and then I finally chose to major in Sociology because it sparked somewhat of an interest to me. I dropped out a year later because during that time I became depressed, frustrated and disappointed in myself. So I got into the healthcare field because that’s what my mom is I thought maybe if I followed her footsteps, it’ll lead me to my purpose… and it did. Kind of. Well Let’s just say the acting bug BIT ME HARD. I grew close to a woman that I took care of. She was fighting an illness known as Alzheimer’s. I’m early stages she gave me a lot of insight and wisdom on not only life but she woke up the little girl inside of me to remind me to believe in myself. Once that happened. I found an acting class and the rest is history!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t smooth for me. I appreciate the adversity and challenges I faced. It made me stronger. Wiser. Placed me in this state of mind of knowing I’m walking in my purpose. My struggles became lessons and my lessons turned into blessings. I learned to accept rejection and just enjoy being in the moment.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
