Meet Kaitlynn Kressin of Ocmulgee Brewpub in Macon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlynn Kressin.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After opening a pint cafe and growler fill station in both Warner Robins and Macon, GA, we saw a need for production brewery that made great beer and fresh food. With the Georgia beer laws being what they were when we opened, we knew the kitchen aspect of our business was important in order to serve beer on premise. We hired a brewmaster, worked with a chef from Atlanta, researched fast casual restaurant concepts, hired a local architectural firm and opened our doors in December of 2016.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our city has made the process of opening a family business as smooth as possible. We have had enormous support from the city and its citizens.

We honestly couldn’t ask for anything better. However, like most small businesses, it takes time to perfect processes and procedures. There will always be bumps along the way, but you learn to take them in stride and keep working toward the goal. We’re grateful to have an amazing team of employees that want to see us succeed as much as we do.

Please tell us about Ocmulgee Brewpub.
We are Ocmulgee Brewpub. Ocmulgee because of our city’s historic national monument, The Ocmulgee Indian Mounds and brewpub because we handcraft the best brews and burgers around. Our team set out to go above and beyond what other breweries and burger joints have seemingly perfected, by going back to our city’s roots where living off the land and creating things from scratch were a way of life. We have married craft beer with delectable gourmet burgers, hand-cut fries and superfood salads. From carriage parts to mountain bikes, makers of all kinds have inhabited the building at 484 Second St. and now it’s our turn.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My parents have owned and operated a steak and burger business in Warner Robins for over 20 years, so I’m no stranger to the food industry. One of my favorite childhood memories is when I used to sit in the stock room, building forts from paper boxes and swinging between the shelves while I waited for my dad close down the store. When he would get finished, we’d pack up our things, get in the car and on the way home we would stop at Taco Bell to get a “Choco Taco.” I loved our time together and I especially loved those chocolate ice-cream tacos.
