Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Pamela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always knew I had a sensitivity to my physical surroundings. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I realized I could be a professional who designs spaces to stimulate positive moods. During my senior year in high school, I began thinking about what I wanted to ultimately do to achieve happiness and prosperity. My first thought was Interior Design. I wanted to attend college to learn as much as I could about the world of Interior Design, and the visual arts, so I could help influence environments and atmospheres. With my mind set, I told my mom exactly what I was going to do and while the excitement still oozed out of me, she said, “I think you should consider something a little more stable… secure… always in demand…”
With that, I went on to earn a B.S. in Finance and a M.S. in Operations Management. I got a job with a reputable corporation, towards the end of the Great Recession, and tried my best not to go crazy with the monotony of my dull, secure, unfulfilled life as a Financial Analyst. My career granted me a nice feeling of stability but I didn’t see how my day-to-day activities made an impact in uplifting humanity nor was I creatively flourishing. It was killing me softly. To keep from suffocating to death due to the lack of creativity in my life, I started my first company in 2010 – SheerChic Weddings and Events – after only 1 year in my Financial career. I planned weddings and events as a side hustle for three years before I finally chose to stop tip toeing around my passion and go for the vibe I was truly connected to, Interior Design.
It took me 8 years to circle back and begin to tackle the dream I had as a teenager; however, I am grateful for those years because they provided me priceless business experience and anchor me in my creative design path. I began learning about the fine intricacies and depths of Art and Design in September 2013 at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I found out early on that Interior Design, not to be confused with Decorating, has so many layers, facets and dimensions. It goes much deeper than what you think meets the eye. I’d learned to really see by the time I earned my fine arts degree. I could see things such as how important balance is within spaces; how color and light can be incorporated to create various moods; and how elements like line and visual rhythm play a part in the way our psyche is stimulated.
I haven’t always known who I am nor have I been aware of who I wanted to become. It took me some time to strengthen my confidence muscle enough to go for my dreams. The experience that ultimately broke me down to a point where I wildly searched for myself, my peace and my true joy was the feeling of being stuck, alone and sick from my unhappiness.
It was March 30, 2018 in Santa Clarita, CA and I was at a cross-roads in my love life. I decided to take a hike in the mountains along the Angeles National Forest and I intentionally went on this hike to get some fresh air, clear my head and feel. About halfway into my hike, I looked across the valley and paused. In that moment, I was the most authentic with myself than I had been in a very long time.
In that authenticity, I accepted being the sole cause of the distortion I felt for so long. And in that authenticity, I chose the path of feeling good, for myself, forever and always.
Up to that point, I had been in a 10 year relationship with a corporate job that wasn’t fulfilling; in a 7 year relationship with a man that didn’t add to my happiness; and in a city that left me without my support system to distract me from the work I needed to do for myself. That was when my real work began. This work taught me concepts like “I am enough” and “I create the me I want to be” in a way that had never been so clear. I grew to practice loving myself in such a way that I am unbreakable.
In November 2018, I moved to Atlanta and began manifesting my inner digging and development in my approach to designing the spaces in my own home. As soon as I completed the first space, it occurred to me – I believe it was divine intervention – that the work I was destined to accomplish included designing spaces in the homes of women who are in a place of understanding the importance of personal development, the environments we choose to be in, and their relatedness to mental health and our being on this earth.
My passion is to empower women along their personal journey to their best self through the use of Interior Design as a visual foundation. I like to call it Inner Design through Interior Design™. Check us out to see how we can curate your space to actively tap into your being’s inner design through the realm of interior design and mental health.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think every obstacle is an opportunity to embrace discomfort and possibility. One of the main struggles I deal with quite often is feeling like I don’t have enough hours in the day to get-it-all-done. I try to maintain a daily practice of slowing down, taking some time to myself, planning things out, etc. I remind myself to do my best and forget the rest. It will all get done.
Each day brings something new that is meant for me and my Dream Team to experience, and we do so from a place of love, possibility and creativity. This is life.
