Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Zhang.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Paul. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My inspiration to start a business was this: I simply did not want to have a job or work for others. In other words, I was lazy. I was wracking my brain for the perfect business to open, and I came up with tea. Alcohol and tobacco are typical addictions that I cannot enjoy. That leaves coffee and tea, but there’s already a Starbucks down every street, so tea it is.
When I opened my first store, people were clueless to what I was selling. My friends who supposedly were helping me never showed up often enough to help. In short, people talked bad about me, and business was hard.
However, after about nine months, business soared, and I decided to expand the business and bring authentic bubble tea (not tea powder) to the Atlanta area.
Has it been a smooth road?
As I’ve said before, the friends that promised to invest and help did not help. The customers and others started bad-mouthing me because business was slow in the beginning.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kungfu Tea story. Tell us more about the business.
We sell authentic Taiwanese bubble milk tea, juice, and other beverages. We are known best for our tea-based drinks such as bubble milk tea and passion fruit green tea. I am most proud of my teas and authenticity and source of our ingredients. The main difference between us and other shops is the source of all products. All tea is brewed with leaves from Taiwan, bubbles are made in house, and even the cups and straws are imported from Taiwan.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Short-term goals include opening three more stores and our own warehouse. Long-term goals include giving back to the community who helped me.
