Today we’d like to introduce you to Pauletta Brown.
Hi Pauletta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My parents adopted me as a baby. And even though they loved me with the capacity in which they could, I still battled with a spirit of abandonment. This spirit led me to cling to friendships and relationships that were toxic or the expiration date had long passed. Poor decision-making, placing myself in ungodly relationships, and low self-esteem landed me in situations that I had absolutely NO BUSINESS being in. If I could be honest, there were times when I felt as if God had forgotten about me. So you can imagine how blown away I was when He called me into ministry. Scared and in disbelief, I accepted the call. And it seems as soon as I did that, the flood gates opened. I started preaching, teaching workshops, and life coaching. But what many people don’t tell you is that with the acceptance of your calling comes a weight that is very heavy. And there have been many times that I wanted to throw in the towel and quit. Now that I think about it, when I have thrown in the towel, God threw it right back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Noooooooo!!!! The hardest part has been being single in ministry. Celibacy is not for the faint of heart, especially when you didn’t live that lifestyle before your call to ministry. Distractions are always present, so I have had to learn to navigate my way around them. Another struggle that I had to contend with was loneliness. My circle has dramatically decreased. It has just been within the past few years that I have accepted having a much smaller tribe.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My secular job is a Jobs for America’s Graduates Specialist. I help seniors transition from high school to the “real world.” After school, I get the opportunity to operate in my purpose. I started Let’s Do Lyfe 5 years ago. Under this umbrella, I life coach people into healing and their purpose. My style of coaching is nontraditional. People learn and grow best when given life-applicable tools and skills. I infuse humor into the sessions to break the ice and remove apprehensions.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
God deserves ALL of the credit!!! I have had several people on the sidelines cheering me on throughout this whole journey. About five years ago, my best friend gave me the name “Let’s Do Lyfe”, and it has been up since then. Every now and then, I will feel like stagnant, and in those moments, it never fails, God will send someone to remind me that you are doing the right thing, at the right time, in the right place.
