Meet Peahen Gandhi of RENUGYN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peahen Gandhi.

Hi Peahen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a proud daughter of two amazing immigrant parents who were business owners in their own right. They instilled in me the importance of hard work and community. I always knew I wanted to be a doctor, from the time I was 5 years old I was drawing pictures of the “Gandhi Hospital” where my dream was to “make sure anyone who got sick would leave healed.” When I started my clinical rotation in Obstetrics and Gynecology, I was amazed at how women were able to adapt to so many physiologic changes throughout their life. The onset of menses to the selfless surrender to a growing baby and then to only find uninvited struggle of the menopausal transition. “Wow, I thought, I want to fight for these warriors!” This lead to me joining a private practice in Northwest Georgia in growing Cherokee county, where the medical community was not quite as robust as it is today. I enjoyed the small-town, word-of-mouth referrals from my loyal patient base for 17 years! It was only recently, with changes in healthcare bureaucracy, that I decided to venture out and create a more patient-centered, boutique gynecologic practice. I am so glad I did, because I feel I have regained the joy of medicine in my life! I am able to spend ample time with my patients, not only to conquer medical health issues and complex surgical cases, but also to help women with PREVENTION and WELLNESS!! The traditional medical system is reactive, not rewarded to be PROACTIVE. I, along with other physicians I meet in the community are blazing a trail to promote prevention, wellness, and early intervention to help combat the chronic morbidity crisis in America. I am so passionate, and while I am board certified in three medical specialties…my most proud moments are when I actually see patients happy and sending their relatives and friends to me. As far as my biggest accomplishment….I hope that is yet to come! I am so blessed to have realized my childhood dream to become a physician and serve women with compassion, excellence and innovation.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, paths to excellence are never smooth. Greatness is earned by the way obstacles are overcome, challenges are handled and dreaming is perpetual. Your career, personal life and health all run parallel, but are destined to intersect and create forks in the road. Especially for women, who have to think about when and if to start a family while pursuing their career. However, my fork was when my beloved father passed away of a heart attack in my own home, while I was in the hospital on my 24-hour shift. It was painful. Painful to know I was not there for my own father, while serving others. The grief is immense, when you lose a parent, especially when that is also your mentor, source of encouragement and life-force. I felt helpless. I had to reorganize priorities in my life. I had to realize that there was a better way. I continued to have the support of my colleagues to power through another 10 years. I became a lot kinder to myself. I came to understand that sacrifice was also a choice. Success in life is to pursue a balance, not to achieve an unrealistic level of perfection.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
