Hi Petra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My training and profession are as an educator. I have had a passion for fashion and design for as long as I can remember. I began with simple style sessions and small item sales on different apps.
This led to live sales, extended style applications, and a clothing line.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a business owner is difficult in itself.
The hardest part of this journey to building what I consider a lifestyle brand has been remaining consistent. This business evolves and changes constantly, making it difficult to keep up.
Coming up with new and inventive ways to remain relevant is a daunting task, but it is necessary.

I am an educator by profession, and I have been so for nearly 16 years. Although I love education and the advancement of children, fashion, and design are my true passions. My company is morphing into a lifestyle brand—and I love it. I want to offer more than just clothes. I offer styling services, personal shopping, and direct sales.
I have added my group, Beautiful Black Girl, to the LLC, and we have had great feedback and success. This group was created to provide a safe space for women of color to collaborate and love each other; it mirrors the purpose and goal of Torch Movement LLC.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I feel like it’s time to branch out from my city. I am currently looking to relocate, but the best thing about my area is the close-knit feel of my community. I am a small-town girl, so it’s a good feeling to be where everyone knows everyone.
