So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After years of brainstorming ways to express our creativity, we finally found our niche in the form of hat-making. When looking for fashionable, high-quality hats, options can be limited. On one hand, you may spend an arm and a leg to achieve the desired look or be forced to go with a retail giant where items are mass-produced and have little to no individuality. Realizing this, we wanted to create quality headwear with style and uniqueness to the wearer, while also providing an experience through our hat making process. We launched NoMan Hat Co. in October 2019 and haven’t looked back.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
While hat-making is fulfilling in many ways, it does bring its challenges. Like with any craft, you make mistakes, but the key is learning along the way. We both work full time in our chosen professions, so hat making is like a part-time job with fulltime responsibilities. However, the impact of COVID was mainly positive for us, as we had a period of downtime to regroup and make business improvements. Our consultations are now virtual, making it quite easy to experience the custom hat-making process from anywhere in the U.S.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Quite honestly, our growth is credited to our shortcomings. We both agree that without our mistakes, we’d have nothing to learn from, stunting our growth and development.
