Meet Phillip Morris of Cult Dealer in East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Morris.

Phillip, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started designing and printing shirts for friends about 10 years ago. Then, it evolved into making my friend’s band t-shirts. I then decided to with the assistance of my now business partner Andy Stroud make graphic t-shirts and art based on movies, and music that we grew up watching and listening to throughout our life. In the future, we have plans to start doing live screen printing for a festival and other occasions.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been a lot of setbacks and frustrations along the way. We’ve been mostly self-taught so we’ve definitely made a few messes in the shop. I’ve definitely had some help too, from people you know and have interviewed before. Rebecca Berthold let me come sit in at her shop a very long time ago so I could see the process. That was a tremendous help. I currently work at Odditees for Gary Stanton screen print shop and I’ve learned a great deal there as well.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cult Dealer – what should we know?
Cult Dealer specializes in not only printing shirts for others but we are in the process of building a brand. We also want to start working with other artists in the future to add some diversity and to get other artists friends out there.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I didn’t know this question was coming but like I mentioned earlier Rebecca and Gary. my business partner Andy Stroud. Tim and Danny Song of Gaja (the entire staff really). Paul Hernandez who has bought almost every shirt we’ve ever put out and is soon to start working with us. Chase Tail who is a good friend and my first guest artist. The great and talented Mike Black and his wife Meredith. Jason Elder and James Halcrow (Emerald City Bagels) for being my family and roommates who had to put up with my constant ink messes in the kitchen before I had a shop. Anyone who has ever supported me.
