Meet Porscha J. Bailey of US Neuropathy Centers in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porscha J. Bailey.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Porscha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a Board-Certified Podiatrist by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, currently practicing in Marietta, GA. I was born in Charleston, South Carolina but I grew up in Warner Robins, GA, where I competed in multiple sports but track and field most notably.

Though a country girl at heart, I packed up my southern charm and headed to the melting pot city of Atlanta, where I continued my passion for athletics as a Division I collegiate sprinter at Georgia State University. After graduating, I was ready for palm trees and the ocean breeze, so I made my way to South Beach to attend Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, FL. I then completed a residency in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at Westchester General Hospital in Miami. During my time at Westchester General, I served as chief resident and a board member of the Miami-Dade County Podiatric Medical Association.

Afterwards, I made my way back to the Peach State to begin a fellowship in an exciting and specialized field, Lower Extremity Peripheral Nerve Surgery at US Neuropathy Centers. In Addition, I currently serve as head of US Neuropathy Centers’ brand-new Aesthetic Division. I have an interest in Peripheral nerve pathology, Aesthetic/Cosmetic Podiatry, Minimally Invasive Foot and Ankle Surgery, Sports Medicine, Medical Spa, and Health and Wellness promotion.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
March 20, 2014, was one of the worst days of my life. On that day, I discovered that I did not MATCH, meaning I would not get a medical residency. I could not advance my training; therefore, I would not be able to get the necessary surgical preparation to be a licensed foot and ankle surgeon. I was beyond devastated and embarrassed. I did not understand why this happened to me. I questioned God daily and felt as if he had forgotten about me. It seemed as if no one could help me. No matter where I turned for assistance, it would never manifest. I fell into a deep and dark depression. I cried daily. I hated my life. I felt inadequate. I felt defeated and dejected because, despite my numerous efforts, I could not get myself out of this situation.

This feeling of inadequacy and depression persisted for over a year and It was not until April 2015 when I joined the S.T.C. Christian prayer team that I began to make strides towards lifting the heaviness that was overwhelming me. I soon realized that I had to give all my concerns to GOD, and it was not until I relinquished my tight grip, that I began to see him move.

When I got out of my own way, opportunities just opened for me. I was blessed with the opportunity to complete a preceptorship with a doctor who was a Director of a residency program. There, I was able to showcase to the director that he would find a hardworking and able trainee in me and he subsequently gave me a chance.

After once being considered an undesirable candidate, during my final year of residency training, I was awarded the prestigious title of chief resident, serving as one of the key leaders of the program. Just to think, there was a time that I doubted myself and my capabilities.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the US Neuropathy Centers story. Tell us more about your practice.
US Neuropathy centers consist of a passionate team of experts that specialize in peripheral neuropathy, nerve pain and nerve injury in the lower extremity. Despite the type of pain a patient has, the US Neuropathy Centers team takes a head-to-toe approach that examines every facet of the nervous system in order to hone in on the exact cause of a patient’s systems.

Once a diagnosis occurs, the team works together to establish a customized treatment plan that addresses the root cause of a patient’s condition, provides relief from uncomfortable symptoms, and prevents further complications from developing.

The Aesthetic Division of US Neuropathy Centers will provide patients options for common sources of embarrassment in the lower extremity in addition to beautification modalities or procedures. Patients can look forward to the following additional services:

Laser nail therapy/toenail fungus treatment
Toenail restoration
Laser Scar therapy
Fat Pad Restoration
Sclerotherapy
Platelet-rich plasma injections
Botox injection for hyperhidrosis
Custom orthotics

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
In my experience, there is no such thing as luck. I believe in fate or destiny. God has a plan and I had to learn to trust him even when I did not understand his plan. When I fully relied on God, it allowed blessings to be released. I would not trade my tribulations for anything in the world because it upgraded my faith and showed me that luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. And whenever given a chance my goal is always to take full advantage because opportunities can be scarce.
