Porsha, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Hey! My name is Fanci! I am self-taught makeup artist from Montgomery, Alabama. But currently based in New York City/Atlanta as a Flight Attendant, I have been in the makeup industry for nine years plus, and I love what I do. I love to enhance and make other women feel good about themselves. I worked for two makeup companies and gained a little more experience before I branched out on my own as “FanciFaces” 2 years ago, I decided to take my ideas and career to another level. Still, I wanted to be very creative with my next move. I always wanted my own lipstick line as a makeup artist. I knew my idea had to stand out amongst other lines!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Not too of a rough one Either. I know what I need to do to get my business out more. Many small companies start off slow, but if you don’t put in the work, it won’t move.

A year in as a flight attendant, the thought came to me as I was on break in the air on airplane mode. “Aviation themed cosmetic line” I researched day in and out, no one has done this idea, and I wanted to be the first to do it. I thought of cute aviation names that flight crew use on the day to day bases. I was so excited when my thoughts were coming into fruition. To this day, everyday I wake up excited and motivated to enhance my makeup business ! I love my job, although it’s very demanding , but flexible and still allows me to travel and have a life . While running my lip line I am still booked as an artist. I enjoy being a makeup artist for any occasion, but I love to work weddings! I am booked for a wedding just about every month. I travel back and forth for “JessFanci” which is my best friend and I makeup company for large wedding parties baby we SLAY!! . Seeing a woman grab the mirror, smile, and says, “ahh I love my makeup “makes my day. I’ve always told myself I don’t do well with management. I enjoy being my own boss. What keeps me moving and motivated is,” it doesn’t matter how many lipstick lines, eyelash lines, and Hairlines, etc.. If they can do it, I can too!” Faith workout works is dead and I must apply myself to make it to the top ! One day everyone will know about the FLYcollection. Even Yung Miami from city girls was caught rocking “first class” from my matte lipstick line! So whenever you can please check out my FLYcollection I have lipgloss , matte lipsticks , and lashes ! What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as creating a plan and sticking to it! Never giving up. I’m looking out for all the small black businesses that out there trying to make it.
