Today we’d like to introduce you to Precious Orji.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My family and I moved to Brooklyn, NY from Nigeria in 2000. Like many children of immigrants, I had 3 career options to choose from, otherwise, I would be considered a failure: doctor, lawyer, or engineer. I spent the early years of my youth trying to determine which path I would go down, all while suppressing my innate love for fashion and design. I ultimately decided to follow after my father’s footsteps and was accepted into Howard University as a Legal Communications major in 2014. I didn’t love law, but honestly, I didn’t hate it either.
After all, I was really really good at it so why not just earn my degree, get a high paying job at a law firm post grad, and eventually open my own practice? Wasn’t that the American dream? But as my graduation date neared, I got real with myself and decided that law was NOT what I wanted to spend my life doing. I wanted to be in fashion and business and I was going to make it happen!
I earned my degree in December 2018 and decided I would start my business… soon. But like most people, I became really comfortable at my job and just kept on postponing my business launch. Then Covid happened. And I knew it was time to take my destiny into my own hands. It was now or never. I spent most of 2020 designing my logo, drafting a business plan, sampling from vendors and soon it was time to bring my passion to life. And on November 14, 2020, The Bizzy Body was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve been in business for almost 1 year now and I’ve definitely encountered my fair share of struggles along the way. When I launched, I thought all I needed was to have great inventory and flawless photos. I quickly realized that was not the case and I actually needed more than that to run a successful business. I needed to know my target audience, industry trends and a strategic marketing plan. I went weeks without sales and other days, I’d get 20 sales in one day. It was hard, inconsistent and discouraging but ultimately it was a test of my character and determination. I knew what I wanted- I could literally taste it and nothing was going to stop me from making it my reality.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Bizzy Body?
The Bizzy Body is a black woman owned fashion brand that caters to young, fashion forward women on the go. Our lifestyle pieces are specially curated for modern women for their most memorable occassions.
At Bizzy Body, we focus on dressing women for special events such as parties, brunch, date night, vacations and more. Our looks are always stylish and never basic or boring. We understand that as women, we are extremely versatile and we want to look and feel gorgeous wherever we go. We know how annoying it can be to show up to an event wearing the same outfit as someone else so we stay away from trendy pieces and aim to offer more exclusive wears. We are currently wholesaling but the plan to offer original pieces as we grow. Although we’ve only been open for less than a year, we are passionate and knowledgeable about our offerings and we want your readers to know that they can always count on us to provide an impeccable range of garments for their multifaceted lifestyle.
What are your plans for the future?
As our brand continues to grow, our plan is to begin manufacturing original and exclusive pieces for our customers. We are also looking forward to opening a showroom either in Los Angeles, NYC or Washington DC so we can provide more convenience and showcase the Bizzy Body experience for our shoppers.
