Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Pound.
Preston and Carlos began working together as a rhythm section in 2013 for a pop-punk band called Point of Sizzle. Through several years of playing together, the two developed a tight musical chemistry. Preston moved to Statesboro for a period, where he and Kade Bell started the heavy blues duo, SNUZR. SNUZR played around the coastal Georgia are, writing what would become the music for Ghost Moths’ first album. SNUZR became Ghost Moths after a lineup change, with Marisa Williams of Bullmoose filling in on drums. Ghost Moths eventually migrated to Georgia, where Preston and Carlos reunited, with the two of them writing the title track for Ghost Moths’ Burn the Barn. Carlos became the permanent drummer for the group shortly after.
Ghost Moths recorded their debut album, Burn the Barn in a large barn in Northern Georgia. Entering into 2019, The pair continued to write and perform in the Atlanta area supporting artists like Unknown Hinson, Zeal & Ardor, Fantastic Negrito, ’68, Kolars, The Sh-Booms, and Lincoln Durham. Carlos and Preston are currently in the process of writing their second release for 2020.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an incredible amount of fun and work to get the band where it’s at. I have been playing bass for nearly 15 years, and never picked up a guitar until starting this group. I still have a long way to go when it comes to being a competent guitarist. Carlos and I both come from a pop-punk background, so this band is obviously quite different from anything we have ever done before. We have always been performers, but we wanted to try and steer away from the trappings within both pop-punk and blues-based music. I like to think we’ve accomplished that over time.
Ghost Moths – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I think our live show is our strongest aspect. Carlos and I are very musically tight, and we use that to our advantage live. We are able to create a massive sound, we want audiences to here the same amount of sound they would hear from a four piece band. We like to work in limitations.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The quality of shows that we’ve had in the last year have been incredible. Carlos and I have also had the opportunity to work closer than we ever have before, and become even stronger friends than I could have ever thought possible.
