Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Nwafulume.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Definitely had to think about this question for a little, but I found my why, and that is not why I started, but why I continue to PUSH. Since high school, I always knew that my God-given purpose on earth was to help people and I would always find myself in situations where I was the only person in the position to help, but I always knew that I wanted to serve people in as many ways. I was fortunately blessed to have parents, family, and loved ones in my life who supported me spoke uplifting and great prophecies over me, and provided resources for me so I could always have the upper hand in life. I also push myself because of my little sisters, nieces, and everyone who looks up to me.
Making sure that my family is good and can live the life they deserve is very important to me and I whole-heartedly believe that I am the one who will make sure that happens. Always having a support system is why I am where I am today and I want to make sure that other young women have that as well. Someone in their corner who genuinely believes in them and wants to see them reach their fullest potential because it is needed in the world. God put us all on earth to fulfill his plans he had for the world and when each person does their part, that is when fulfillment comes. If you asked my younger self if I ever thought that I would be in this position when I got older, I would have definitely been uncertain and wondering if I was capable of everything that I am doing today. I grew from a shy, not so outspoken girl to a womyn who speaks with a captivating voice.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My parents have always told me that “nothing good in life ever comes easy” and trial after trial I find that statement to be more true. Starting this business was really me sticking my feet into something that I had no clue of where I was landing. From the very beginning, myself and my friends who started it with me dealt with haters, negative talk, and people who didn’t even think the organization would even last a few months. What was even worse was that some of those people were my “friends”. I had a few people tell me that I was not capable enough to be a leader and run an organization. Another challenge was handling both school, work, and the organization at the same time. My goals aren’t just around being an entrepreneur, I am also in school for Nursing and that right there makes people do a double-take. Taking classes like Statistics and Organic Biochemistry, while making sure the organization and the team were all progressing definitely took a toll on me, but I know that this is something I desire and truly want.
Pretty Educated Young Thriving Womyn – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Pretty Educated Young Thriving Womyn is a college campus women empowerment organization here to serve, empower, and educate women, specifically in college because college is that time in life when people go through the motions of life, trying to figure everything out while still digging deep within to find ourselves.
We create/host events, conventions, provide resources, and serve the community which all abide to our mission statement.
We are most proud of the impact we have made on the girls/womyn in our community, we have set an example in our community showing girls the importance of not only wanting more for yourself but DOING more for yourself as well. A womyn lacks nothing being a well-rounded individual and giving back to her community so it is important to set the standard so women can never go below their standards.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I love questions like these because they really get me to dig a little deeper within my thoughts and beliefs. To me, success is when you’ve reached that specific point in your life that you’ve always dreamed about. And that includes everything being good, relationships with your most high (to me is God), family, friends, and the people around you, career, finances, etc . And as you’ve climbed to this journey of success, that means you’ve touched the people you’re connected to along the way. You have positively impacted them and helped push them to seeing and becoming the virtuous person they know they are.
