Meet Princess Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princess Davis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been really interested in all things fashion. I grew up watching top model & project runway. I started learning how to sew in middle school and used to make T-shirts and customize jeans for my friends in high school. I attended Alabama A&M and got my B.S in fashion design & merchandising. While I was there, I was a part of the on campus modeling troop WARD Modeling Troop, Inc & I was a member of Trendsetters Fashion Club. Being part of both of those organizations allowed me to branch out and connect with people who had the same fashion interest as me. These organizations also taught me the needed skills for planning fashion events. Once I graduated from college, I moved back home and have been trying to build my clientele for my clothing line Royal Daisy Designs. Through my clothing line I offer custom hand-sewn garments. Last year I also started a boutique, Daisy’s Glamtique, which offers trendy ready to wear women’s clothing. Outside of clothing, I also model. I started modeling in elementary school, but I didn’t get really consistent with it until I got to college and now I’m just focusing on building my portfolio and doing fashion shows.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle for me has just been getting consistent clientele for my business and getting my business out there. Since my business is based on custom pieces, if I’m not sewing then I don’t have anything to be able to show people my work. Plus, I work a regular 9-5 job so getting home from work a lot of the times, I’m tired so I just have to push myself to get clothes made.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make custom clothing. I think one thing that sets me apart is that I’m not trying to re-create things that I see other people have made. I’m really focusing on creating my own lane. My mentor in college labeled my aesthetic for my brand as urban glam and I try to make sure that’s prevalent in everything I create. I also offer alterations to my clients & wardrobe styling.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First of my mom for always being supportive of everything that I’ve wanted to do. I had some amazing teachers in college that made sure we were great at our crafts & had all the knowledge we needed to be successful. I also have some of the most supportive friends who keep me going when I’m lacking motivation.
