Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Joyce.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I always thought that I was a healthy young woman and took pride in treating my body right, however in 2014, I was told that was extremely anemic and that my vitamin D count was terribly low. I realized that I was highly uneducated about the nutrients that my body needs to flourish. Not only was I sick inside, but it was showing on my skin on the outside. I decided to take healing into my own hands and try all-natural remedies to restore my health. I had a ton of vitamins and I started wondering why there wasn’t anything on the market that combined all the herbs I need as a woman. I also could not find a Black-owned company that was selling the supplements I needed or a company that was affordable. That’s when I decided to be the solution. This line is vegan, all-natural, non-GMO and gluten free! I want women to know that beauty starts inside and that it’s not just about what we put on our skin, but what we consume. My company, Pretty Healthy is where wellness meets beauty!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been easy. It took 2 years to get this company off the ground. Between manufacturing, vendors, packaging, FDA approvals and all of the certifications, I had a journey ahead that I wasn’t prepared for. I quickly learned that finding manufactures that have integrity with their products is not easy work! The amount of research and sampling alone is a process that you have to be patient with if you want high quality products that actually work. I wouldn’t change the process for anything b/c it helped me learn my business and manufacturing from the inside out and I am happy to provide supplements with ingredients that women can trust and believe in!
Pretty Healthy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is different because most people do not think about wellness when they think of beauty. I aim to change that. I believe that you shine from the inside out and beautiful skin, a good night’s sleep, longer hair, glowing skin… they are all connected to our health. When we treat our body right, we are essentially loving ourselves well. Pretty Healthy is leading with education in mind. We do not wish to simply be a brand, but a solution for those who struggle with skincare and other issues that disrupt women every day. It is also vital to be intentional about educating the Black and Brown communities about the direct correlation between health and beauty. We deserve products that aren’t toxic too…and make them affordable! I understand that in the age of social media, everyone wants to feel pretty, so do I. So why not offer products that fulfill that goal while keeping you healthy as well. Simply put I want to help others be pretty and be healthy!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is doing what you love and financial freedom. I want to create the life I deserve while helping to make the world healthier and more beautiful! If I can be a spark of change for others than I know that I have lived well. I always think about the legacy I will leave and what I want to be remembered for. I want people to know that I have invested in my community and given back to the world in a way that matters and makes me proud!
