Today we’d like to introduce you to Purvi Talati.
Hi Purvi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Purvi Shah. Like most of us, I am juggling work, a husband and kids! I have a successful career in project management with a major in environmental engineering, and I earnestly love my professional life. Our day-to-day life keeps us busy around the clock, but I firmly believe in following your passion and that is how Daisy’s was born and my passion has converted to a very successful business.
My mum did not buy skin & hair products; she would make centuries old recipe ubtan (modern name- soap) and homemade shampoos/conditioner that were organic from herbs grown in our small backyard. Using herbs for skin & hair and the concept of promoting skin & hair care in a natural way was ingrained from this philosophy.
I started making soaps for family & friends for gifts. Eventually, I launched Daisy’s in 02/2020. I started with small beginnings with a Facebook page. My first customers were family, neighbors, friends, and friends of friends that soon grew to a large set of customers. That is how Daisy’s has grown in past two years from a small Facebook page and from family, neighbors, friends, and friends of friends to where we ship all over the country from our website – www.shopatdaisy.com.
At present, I sell soaps, serum, shampoos, creams, masks and oils. As my business evolves, I intend to make more products. I have made fragrances on demand for some regular clients who specifically asked for it. I have been told by many to make products for men which I am working on.
All major herbs – turmeric, lavender, mint, sage and hibiscus used in the products I alchemize are grown organically by my husband in our home. This is not my endeavor; it’s ours and for always. Daisy’s is beyond a job for me; it’s meditation when I make products. I am very grateful to my mum whose passion has become a passionate business for me.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been a rocky road but what would be a ride be without any challenges!! – My first challenge was to understand how to open and operate a business! – Making products is my forte but sales/marketing/accounting/finance is not my domain. I had to work with my accountant and spend time to understand the operational aspects of business. Secondly, I did not have a budget to hire a sales team, so I lacked and still lack the marketing ability to promote my business – I am still learning :). Another challenging aspect of business is to have people to believe in a product that is not a brand, not from a lab and to have them try a product. This challenge was easy to solve for me as once a client tried a sample of a product, they were going to come back and be customers for life.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are an exclusive family-owned company. We specialize in handmade skin & hair products that are completely natural free from all types of harmful chemicals, colors & fragrances. I make all the products myself. Our most popular product is Turmeric & Honey Soap. What makes us extremely unique is that most ingredients we used in our products like Turmeric, Lemon Balm, Hibiscus, Sage, Mint, etc. are grown organically by my husband in our home garden. My husband spent his childhood years in a farm and has an amazing green thumb. My two daughters help with the shipping, handling and other operations for Daisy’s. We truly enjoy every aspect of Daisy; most of our products are inspired by ancient Indian science Ayurveda, and we are very happy to have this endeavor that brings out the best of us!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson that Daisy’s has taught me is that always follow your passion and dream and you will achieve success!
