Meet Qiana Avery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Qiana Avery.

Qiana Avery

Hi Qiana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Growing up, I was always fascinated by stories. I asked about our family’s past, such as how the couples met, the proposal story, and their wedding day. Or how someone got their name or nickname.

And this passion has grown from losing my beloved mother and both grandmothers. As I get older, I still have many questions about our family history. I also think about how my great-nieces will never know their great-grandmother. It can only be from the stories and pictures we may share.

So, I thought of what if I created a video where my mother tells her story. A book is great, but a video is powerful. This would have allowed my great-nieces to get to know my mom in her own words. To truly capture her essence, which led me to create legacy videos.

I also have a passion for training and development. I spend a lot of time watching YouTube for educational purposes and taking online course. So, another part of my business is helping others share their brand with the world so that they can make the impact.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a fun, bumpy ride. Because I am shifting from my professional field that I went to school for and now entering a different path, there is a lot to learn. I think with any field, you don’t know what you need fully until you get out there. And with each challenge, it shows me what to do better next time. It’s not fun at the time, but it’s making me a better person and videographer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a videographer. I work with small business owners to help them tell their stories, which could take many different forms, such as brand stories, testimonial videos, or online courses.

I also work with families to tell the stories of their loved ones through legacy videos.

I’m most proud of the smiles I see on the legacy storytellers as they share their stories with their families. It’s just a beautiful, magical day when the family gathers to hear their loved one’s stories.

What sets me apart is for the legacy video, I’m creating something that I wished I had from my mother before she passed. The videos I make is truly made with love.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was very quiet until you got to know me. I loved learning, and my mom would buy me a lot of educational games. I remember when I got my Pre-Computer 1000, I loved playing games and learning. Because of the games I played, I knew how to type before I got to middle school.

I also loved taking pictures. I still remember when I got my first Polaroid camera on Christmas. It just brought me so much joy to take pictures of the family and create my scrapbooks.

I was very active growing up, from playing softball and being a cheerleader.
