Today we’d like to introduce you to Quantavius Dumas.
Hi Quantavius, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Grew up in Atlanta, Thomasville Heights to be exact. Growing up, all I knew was sports and education, those were the big two driving factors for our family. Not so much on making it to the league and all but just being well-rounded individuals to become great men. Our parents have four boys, so you know that was an adventure every day. So through high school, I did a lot of of marching band, baseball, football, robotics, and math club. I wanted to go to Alabama State for college and march for the Might Marching Hornets but had a full ride to Morehouse to pursue STEM Education. Morehouse wasn’t a good fit for me and I decided to transfer to Kennesaw State. Majored in Business Management my first year there and was missing the world of sports so I switch over to sports management. I miss most of my younger brother’s freshman year of high school so after my second year at Kennesaw, I started going to his high school after school to work him out for the basketball team. He ended up making varsity as a sophomore and that’s why his athletic career took it to the next level so that summer going to his junior year. I will travel around with him during AAU season. Seeing what I was learning in school being applied in the real world through my brother’s recruitment process showed me that this is what I wanted to do with my life. So I decided to join the coaching staff at my brother’s high school and start my own basketball training business. I start it off with three kids and once my twin brother came down from Maine at the graduation, I joined the coach and staff at Cristo Rey Atlanta. After seeing the kids at Cristo Rey, I knew I could start an AAU program with those kids. My brother was the college counselor at Cristo Rey. So we decided to put two and two together. Both the academic and athletic pieces of the puzzle. So we decided to create student-athletes of Atlanta
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been an enjoyable one; starting off in this industry as a young person, you get many different eyes looking at you, but once you start to produce results and getting kids to buy in, then that’s when the fun part comes because you get to see their development and growth for how you guys start it to the endpoint.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Student-Athletes of Atlanta, our mission is to educate high school student-athletes and their families on every aspect of athletic recruiting, collegiate academic eligibility, and social responsibility, thereby inspiring increased educational awareness and empowering them to make informed decisions that lead to excellence at the collegiate level, in both sport and the classroom.
We provide innovative tools to help athletes increase their chances of playing sports in college, including online education and performance training, expert recruiting guidance, data-driven college matching tools, and access to more college coaches than any other college recruiting service in the Metro Atlanta area.
We try to grow our network of educators and coaches, utilizing their knowledge and expertise to create course material for our students. As we continue to engage with students from all communities, we plan to highlight development in scholarship and athletic growth. Our goal is to incubate innovation and bright minds, further bolstering education on collegiate recruiting. We aim to provide a physical and digital environment that promotes education, application, and compensation in ways only SAA could allow.
As we build our network, we embrace partnerships with organizations embedded in young athletes that understand the need for education for all levels and will assist in creating a resource center fully stacked with tools to execute.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I tell people all the time the world of sports is the biggest and fastest-changing industry out! From NIL to recruiting, social media. The sports world is on fire! That’s why we are here to help guide student-athletes and their parents to be prepared for a world that can’t be managed alone.
