Meet Quay Chapman of Cookitupquay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quay Chapman

Hi Quay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been in the kitchen as long as I can remember. It all started with family, we use to gather together and cook on holidays. When it wasn’t holidays I was the one cooking at home as my way to help my single mother since she had to work to provide for her and I. Fast forward in life I went to a Technical high school called Harford Tech, where you learn skills in trades and earned necessary licenses and certifications without having to go to college. From there I went and graduated from one of the most well known culinary arts schools, Johnson & Wales university. I took my degree and worked in several kitchens, restaurants and even started my own private chef/catering business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In most cases it wasn’t a smooth road but pressure make diamonds. There were a constant change in restaurants but I learned something different and had different positions. There were time where I was burned out and rethinking my career choice. Being a chef there’s a constant feel of disappointment and loneliness missing time with friends and love ones and barley having any time off.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Cookitupquay ?
You can find me on Instagram @cookitupquay. I take my bookings there. I’m a chef that puts the love of family home cooked meals and match it with years of experiences and variety of cuisines. I’m proud to have something that I call my own where in my own boss and make my own choices. The best thing to know I work with all budgets, I know so many different cuisines and can do a little baking. I know all the ends and ours i can set up your event and be your own personal chef.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success? I will say doing something you love, seeing the input what you create gives to the people who you cook for. That joy you see when someone eats your food is an unmatched feeling.
