Meet Quincy Springs, IV of Chick-fil-A Vine City in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quincy Springs, IV.

Quincy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, I always enjoyed school and the feeling of learning something new and being inspired by those around me. That feeling continued throughout high school and I was named valedictorian of my high school.

While I was in high school, Washington & Lee University started a summer program for minority students who lived in Northern Virginia. The leadership team decided to extend the invitation to students in the local area and I was selected. I went to Washington & Lee University for two summers as a part of that program and instantly felt comfortable with the staff and students. I ended up attending Washington & Lee University after high school and majored in philosophy.

One day, a recruiter from the Virginia Military Institute was on campus and after much discussion, I decided to join the ROTC program. When I graduated from Washington & Lee University, I received my commission as an officer in the U.S. Army with an honors degree in philosophy.

I started out as a field artillery officer when I was approached with an opportunity to compete for a spot in Army Ranger School. After three tries, I graduated from U.S. Army Ranger School. The hard work and training for Army Ranger school truly shaped me into the person I am today. I was deployed all over the world with the Army and was able to experience situations that will forever impact my life.

When I was done with my service, I worked as a Store Manager at Walmart for seven years in Vine City, which actually is on the same lot as the Chick-fil-A Vine City restaurant. During that time, I became invested in the Vine City community and had the opportunity to partner with various nonprofits and businesses and participate in community projects. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to open the Chick-fil-A Vine City restaurant – the first Chick-fil-A in the Vine City area. I’m proud to continue serving the Vine City community and have an impact on my local community through my work.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has certainly not always been a smooth road, but the challenges I have faced in school, in the army and throughout my career are what made me the person I am today. For example, the Army Ranger School included 60 Days of demanding training, though it was six months for me, that truly tests a person’s mental and physical strength. One quote that helps me when I struggle is: “If the will is strong, everything is easy.” When times have been tough, I’ve always focused on the end result and what will come of my short-term struggles. My experience in the army taught me so much, especially the importance of encouragement and compassion for others, which I strive to exhibit daily to my friends, family and restaurant Team Members.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the proud franchise Operator of Chick-fil-A Vine City. As the Operator, I am involved in every aspect of the restaurant, working hands-on in the restaurant, six days a week. I have the opportunity to hire and lead my Team Members, which is one of my favorite parts of the job. I’m also able to partner with local businesses and give back to nonprofits in the Vine City community through our restaurant. With Atlanta being Chick-fil-A’s hometown, Chick-fil-A is truly committed to helping revitalize the Westside and bring lasting, positive change to our community. I’m proud to work for a company that is committed to not only serving quality food but also cares about its people, customers and community.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
If I could talk to my 20-year-old self, I would tell him to be more appreciative of life’s challenges. I would tell him to embrace the hardships because those things build character. And lastly, I would encourage him to keep going because the path will lead him right where he needs to be.

Without my life experiences, I would not have the character, compassion, and leadership that I strive to give back to my community every day. And believe me, the folks in Vine City deserve the very best.
