Meet Rachel Carson of The Dean of Fashion & Beauty in East Point

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Raé.

Rachel Raé is a plus-size lifestyle blogger known as The Dean of Fashion & Beauty. By day, she is a Dean of Students at a charter school located in Atlanta, Georgia. By passion, she is a lover of fashion, style, makeup, health, entertainment, travel & more. She dibbles and dabbles as a Makeup Artist and Interior Designer from time to time. She is 1/3 of a blogger collective known as The Fluffy Girl Tribe, that is dedicated to creating and curating resources, networking opportunities, brand building, marketing and support to the burgeoning newcomers of the blogging community. It was with The Fluffy Girls Tribe that she co-curated their inaugural event, A Brand Identity Workshop: “One Size Doesn’t Fit All”. She owns her own false lash extension brand (Simply Lashes by Raé). Her debut collection is named after the tribe and its members.
Recently, Rachel hosted a happy hour event called “First Fridays” at Puff & Petals Lounge located on Edgewood Ave. First Fridays will occur each & every Friday and is apart of what she calls “A Boss Babe Networking Series”. She has plans to add a brunch component to the series very soon. Overall, the goal is to support black-owned & black operated restaurants, bars & lounges throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area while creating networking opportunities for the curvy women who live there.
She is also diligently working to open an online retail store, The Curvy & Chic Boutique, that will carry fashionable clothing and accessories for women with curves in the fall of 2020.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a blogger, specifically one who is plus-sized has not necessarily been an easy feat. In a digital world that it inundated with bloggers, fashion designers, models, makeup artists, so on and so forth, it has been difficult in finding a voice that is of my own. I want to be intentional about each and every one of my interactions. I want for people to feel better than they were when they leave, ready to make the world a better place. While I have my favorite bloggers in the game such as Marie Denee (The Curvy Fashionista) or Maui Bigelow (Phat Girl Fresh) that I look up to and admire and of course serve as a source of empowerment and inspiration, I still want to create a lane that caters to my own audience (my tribe) that gives off a slightly different vibe than the rest.

Please tell us about The Dean of Fashion & Beauty.
The Dean of Fashion & Beauty is a + Size Lifestyle Blog. It is my mission to embody the voice of your favorite auntie or best friend as I share my opinions as it relates to fashion, beauty, travel & entertainment, It is my goal to remain steadfast in my mission in order to bring dope content to my tribe and continue to be unapologetically and authentically myself while doing so!
I am most proud of my recent creation that is my Boss Babe Networking Series. It is a monthly installment that runs each and every first Friday of the month. I am very excited about having the opportunity to intentionally bring boss babes together in one room and provide a safe space to network and have a great time together so that they can continue to grow in their purpose! My hopes is that they each leave better than they came, ready to curate, collaborate, create & celebrate being a dope ass entreprenHER in this world! Soon there will be “boss babe” merchandise available for purchase. Stay tuned!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe that as the fashion and beauty industry continues to make huge leaps and challenges the norm, it will continue to thrive and move right along with the trends we see. It seems as if it has been more inclusive of women who look like me, curvy, round, juicy, fluffy, voluptuous…the “real plus size” body is beyond a size 12 or 14!
