Meet Rachel Horne of Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Horne

Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a 23-year-old fashion designer from Detroit, Michigan. Fashion has been my passion for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I dreamed of being a runway model, but I tapped into my other passions within fashion, focusing on designing, sewing, and styling. I started sewing at just seven years old and grew up with five sisters who helped shape my love for style—we shared clothes, influenced each other’s looks, and developed a deep appreciation for creativity.

In the seventh grade, I skipped eighth grade and went straight to high school. In 2016, I moved to Atlanta, where I graduated high school at just 17. That same year, I launched my first brand, New Normal Collection, which I’m currently rebranding for the new year. I’m excited to release new designs specifically created by my team and I.

After high school, I moved to Los Angeles to attend school and secure a major internship with Vera Wang, an experience that truly set the tone for my career. I lived in L.A. for 3 ½ years, soaking in inspiration and building my foundation in fashion. I also worked at Saks Fifth Avenue for 6 ½ years, which gave me my start in the industry. During this time, I started personal shopping, which allowed me to gain numerous clients by being professional and providing excellent service. Out of everything I do, personal shopping might be my favorite—it’s where I connect with people on a personal level and bring their visions to life. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with and assist with incredible clients, including Mary J. Blige, Monica, and The Hiltons.

In 2022, I ventured into content creation, making my first TikTok, which went viral with 1.5 million views in just 24 hours. Since then, I’ve continued to create engaging content, accumulating over 2.5 million views and building a community of almost 40,000 followers.

Currently, I’m enrolled in a fashion program at the renowned Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, sharpening my skills and learning from some of the best in the industry.

Now, I’m focused on building my brand as a designer and content creator, collaborating with brands, and continuing my journey in fashion. For me, this path is about more than just style—it’s about creating a legacy and providing for my family while staying true to the dreams I’ve had since childhood.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
there were times | felt alone and lonely in a city that can feel isolating, and l’ve definitely gotten distracted at times, even though L.A. is my favorite place in the world. These challenges pushed me to refocus, rebuild my confidence, and continue pursuing my dreams.

Also when I first moved to Atlanta from Detroit it caused a deep depression because I was far from where I was born and raised where all my family and friends where for the first time so young

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me apart from others is my confidence and my refusal to be like anyone else. I’m not trying to compete with anyone—| focus on carving my own path and staying true to my vision. I’ve always been determined to push through obstacles and stay authentic, even when faced with challenges. I’m not just about fashion trends; I focus on creating timeless pieces and experiences that resonate with people on a personal level. Whether it’s through designing, personal shopping, or content creation, I strive to connect with my audience in an authentic and meaningful way. I’m confident in my individuality and embrace the journey of standing out rather than blending in. I’m also passionate about helping others who want to break into this industry and willing to share what l’ve learned along the way, because I believe there’s space for all of us to succeed.

What I’m most proud of about myself is my resilience and ability to keep going, no matter the setbacks or challenges I face. I’ve learned to trust in my vision, even when things haven’t gone as planned, and I’ve built my confidence by staying true to myself and my dreams. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and the person I’ve become through every obstacle, and I’m excited about what the future holds as I continue to grow and evolve.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’m a 24-year-old fashion designer from Detroit, Michigan. Fashion has been my passion for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I dreamed of being a runway model, but as I grew older, I realized that dream couldn’t happen because I’m only 5 feet tall. Instead, I channeled my love for fashion into designing, sewing, and styling. I started sewing at just seven years old and grew up with five sisters who helped shape my love for style—we shared clothes, influenced each other’s looks, and developed a deep appreciation for creativity.

Since I was a little girl, my biggest inspirations in the fashion industry have been Kimora Lee Simmons and Rihanna. Their fearless approach to style and business has motivated me to chase my own dreams and create a lasting impact in the industry.
