Today we’d like to introduce you to Randes Wells.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Randes. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Atl in 2010 from north Omaha, Nebraska. Went to trade school in Conyers from 6-2 pm worked in Alpharetta after class till seven then drove home to Powder Springs. I hated the traffic and distances. Worked for a demolition company, a warehouse in Villa Rica, and a utilities locating company. In 2016 my job wanted me to take a “lead” position. I turned down due to the responsibilities and paid not being what I expect for that type of commitment. They soon after ran me out of the company altogether. I had recently purchased a 5×10 trailer and already had a ram 1500. When I quit my $50,000 plus a year job, I had nothing to fall back on. I was absolutely tired of working for another person’s dream. I’ve always been handy.
I did work for a concrete company in Nebraska for two years. So I made flyers on the computer and printed what I could out in color and then black and white. Cut the flyers to size and went door to door everyday. My flyers offered services like lawn care, cleaning, hauling, painting, concrete, and demolition. I Manager to gain approximately 8-10 lawn customers in the first two months. One of my closest friends told me, “Ray, just do work like it’s for you”. My first concrete customer asked me to install a fence and the rest is history. We’ve installed over 200 fences and 150 concrete jobs, and just over 20 structures demolished.
I went from doing anything I could to only concrete, privacy fences, and demolition. The focus on the quality and customer services has grown me beyond belief in three short years. I bought a house for my wife and son in March 2019. I take care of my father in Nebraska. I make also make music #raywellsmusic. I have a feature with Lil Boosie “spread my wings” I’m in the process of making a trade school to reflect Man Ant: entrepreneurship, concrete finishing, heavy equipment training. I plan on growing Man Ant Services state to state. I train my employees to understand customer expectations and have pride in our work.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a challenge. I feel like, besides my wife and son I’ve always had to figure things out on my own, which I’m not complaining, I honestly think that’s why my business took off so well but being a new young business owner and having to piece together everything from taxes to contracts and dealing with customers and contractors, is enough to shut a lot new businesses down. Nobody sat me down and said this is how or why. Everything has literally been trial and error and if I didn’t like something or a situation, I do my best to learn from it and keep it moving.
Man Ant Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My Company is Man Ant Services. I pour concrete, build Privacy fences, decks, pergolas and retaining walls. I am a certified heavy equipment operator, I do interior and exterior demolition and I am a certified home inspector however, I am most popular for my fences and concrete. What I am most proud of that it’s all me. I built my company with a Dodge Ram and a $400 dollar trailer that I still use to this day. I don’t have any debt, loans or personal favors from anyone. I built all this with my own two hands and still growing. What sets me aside from others is I’m very honest. My slogan is Honest, reliable and hardworking. I’m really upfront with all my customers. I let them know what my honest, professional opinion is versus what would make me the most money.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as that point when I can fully control my schedule and not have any financial concerns.
