Today we’d like to introduce you to Razal Barton.
Razal, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sixteen years ago I saw an Ad in the Newspaper for someone to run a jackhammer, I thought a workout and a paycheck, why not. While I was working at the company I learned to the core, cut, and grind concrete. During this time I worked on my skills and became a perfectionist. I was now the “Guy” the one who trained and taught new workers how to core, cut and grind concrete. I ended up moving to Georgia 14 years later where I took a 50% pay cut but not a 50% cut in responsibility. I was the person who even the owners asked for advice. That’s when I started to think, I’m not getting paid my worth, so I figured there was only one option. Open my own business.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I was never the office type, but right now I’m everything for my company, the janitor, receptionist, and the core driller. I’ve had to learn a lot in a short time, I’m up late studying, taking classes, asking my mentor so many questions. I will continue to learn and push myself until I became someone’s mentor. I think my biggest obstacle has been getting people to trust that we do quality work. Having worked all my years in California, I don’t have a track record in Georgia.

RKB Coring is a small family owned coring company in Marietta, GA. Core Drilling is cutting circular holes through concrete, asphalt or rock with the use of a diamond tip drill bit. Core drilling is frequently used in the electrical, plumbing and HVAC industries. What we are going to be known for is our exceptional work and commitment to safety. What sets us apart from other core drilling companies is our service. What I’m most proud of is that my doors ever opened.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Making my first $1, it’s framed in my office. It verified that all the work I put into opening my doors was real.
