Meet Rebecca Coll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Coll.

Hi Rebecca, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I think I’ve always been a maker of some sort. After graduating from SCAD with dual Bachelors degrees in sculpture and printmaking, I ended up working as a display coordinator for Anthropologie. Then at the beginning of 2020, I got pregnant, then the pandemic happened and when I went on maternity leave, I accidentally started Good to Know You. Something about working with fibers really clicked for me and now I’m just riding this wave of growth. After 2 years GTKY is currently in 9 stores. It’s sustaining itself and helping to support my family.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. It’s hard as hell being a parent. I also struggled with postpartum depression for almost a year after having my baby. But I think that struggle really forced me to focus my energy on being more purposeful in my art making.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work celebrates color and simple forms. I’m inspired by the minimalist aesthetic, Bauhaus, and artists like Sol Lewitt. That being said, I’m pretty low brow and I try not to take art making too seriously. I want my work to be bright and fun. I’d say I’m most recognized for my color palettes and my use of rug tufting for everything but making rugs. I also try to only use second hand and vintage yarn in my work.

How do you define success?
Success is finding joy in what you do and how you choose to spend your time on this planet.
