Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Holohan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rebecca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For years I had loved practicing yoga and I knew I wanted to teach. In the summer of 2013, I became a certified yoga teacher through the Asheville Yoga Center in Asheville, NC. As I started teaching back in Atlanta, I soon realized that I wanted more tools to help students restore alignment and balance in their bodies and wellbeing in their lives. I had found such powerful healing for myself through massage and bodywork that becoming a massage therapist was a natural next step for me. I moved to Asheville to pursue my Massage Therapy certification, and then came home to Atlanta to open a practice. Today, I practice with wonderful colleagues at Full Compass Massage and Expression Chiropractic in downtown Decatur.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think with both yoga and massage therapy, the hardest part can be finding your niche, or figuring out the style of bodywork or yoga that you really love. It’s a process of experimentation. It took several years but when I found the bodywork modalities of Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy, I knew I had found the styles that resonated with me.
Please tell us about Rebecca Holohan Massage & Yoga.
My mission is to help people connect to their bodies and become active participants in their own healing, using the tools of massage and yoga. I am very passionate about the styles of bodywork I offer. Myofascial Release restores postural alignment and unwinds deep patterns of tension in the body by targeting the connective tissue. It’s incredibly effective for finding the root cause of pain and relieving it. Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle style that works with the connective tissue and nervous system—it’s amazing for anxiety, migraines, depression, PTSD, and so much more.
I find that my bodywork background influences how I teach yoga, and vice versa. My yoga classes and private sessions encourage students to truly experience their body—to become aware and present of sensation, to free their breath and movement, and approach themselves with compassion and curiosity. Our bodies speak to us through sensation—pain and discomfort are invitations to listen, learn, change, and heal.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I actually wouldn’t have changed anything about my path! Even the times of uncertainty taught me to always trust what I love and pursue it. I left a job in the nonprofit world to go out on my own as an entrepreneur, and it was scary at first! But ultimately I have learned so much and I love what I do.
