Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Walls.
Rebecca, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey to this line of business has been a long but interesting one. Looking back, it seems like everything in my life really led me to this career path.
It all began with an old trunk full of dresses, a picture of “Aladdin and Jasmine” holding me as a baby, a Little Mermaid at my 8th birthday party, and three very specific times I was able to visit Disney World. I always knew that I wanted to be a princess when I grew up and I knew that Disney was the way to do it.
As a teenager, I began “training” so that I could get the job of my dreams. I would watch hours and hours of videos of characters, how to do makeup, how to dance, sing, and pose in pictures. At 21 years old, I auditioned for the Disney College Program and actually got the role of “character performer” – my dream job!
The rest is history! After my Disney College Program, I returned back to Atlanta and started my own “Princess Party Company.” I am so proud to have this business. We bring joy to so many kids and families. It is so humbling to be able to be part of this.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, not! Nothing worth it in life ever is!
I believe that because we have strong values, good quality, and the best training available in this line of business that our clients see this and want to continue working with us!
Some of the struggles include cost – starting this line of business with quality materials is very expensive. I also work as a middle school teacher so some of my personal challenges have been juggling both of my professions with the attention they need. I believe many people think that we just show up at parties in costume but there is so much more that goes into it!
Every party includes hours of prep, driving time, time at the party, and then post-party activities which include professional cleaning and restyling all our wigs and costumes. We also spend hours upon hours studying the voice, mannerisms, and stories of all our characters. It’s a lot of work but so worth it!
Southern Belle Princess Parties – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our company provides the highest quality children’s birthday/event character entertainment available! Our work ethic, dedication, and commitment set us apart. We go the extra mile to make sure that every child we meet feels important and special. We do numerous volunteer events every month and we are known for our great customer service!
In our two years in the Atlanta area, we have never had a bad review or any parent tell us they were less than thrilled at what they received! Most parents are surprised and blown away at our performance and quality! I don’t want to give away all the things that we do, but I will say that the interaction between us and our clients include memories that last a lifetime.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was in June of this year when we worked with the City of Griffin to create a concert that all ages could enjoy. My performers volunteered hours upon hours of their time to rehearse, drive, and perfect this event. We had 13 characters on the stage and a 14th character join us for a meet and greet after our concert. We had over 10 people working behind the scenes to help us! Every person in this event volunteered their stuff and their time. We had several hundred people show up to our event; moms, dads, and children alike were smiling and were overjoyed at what they were seeing.
During the concert, I looked out over the crowd and I realized that every person in that venue at that moment was there because of an idea I had. That meant the world to me.
After the concert, I had a Disney Annual Pass holder come up to me and say, “I cannot tell you how many times I have seen shows at the parks in Orlando, and I want you to know that this is the best show and the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Thank you for bringing this joy to us and to all the children in our area that may never get the chance to visit Disney.”
That was the proudest moment of my career.
