Rebecka Jean-Baptiste

Hi Rebecka, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started learning makeup in 2016, completely self-taught, with the help of YouTube. I even started a small business offering birthday makeup services, practicing on family and friends. During this time, I also had a YouTube channel where I shared my makeup journey. However, along the way, I lost my passion for makeup. I wasn’t sure if it was something I truly wanted to pursue or if I was good enough to make it a career.

I decided to take a break and explore other interests, diving into skincare and eventually pursuing a college degree, which I graduated with an Associate’s. But no matter how many different paths I tried, I still felt lost. Although I had stepped away from doing makeup professionally, my love for doing makeup on myself never faded.

After graduating, I continued doing makeup, but it wasn’t as consistent as it is now. As I spent more time around weddings, due to my family’s involvement in event planning, I realized that weddings were my niche. This was a turning point for me, and in 2023, I rediscovered my passion for makeup. I gained confidence, not only in my skills but in trusting myself as an artist.

In the beginning, I struggled with anxiety, worried that my clients wouldn’t like my work, but what I came to realize was that it wasn’t about their approval—it was about my own. Through support from my mentor and the amazing people I’ve met along the way, I’ve grown to truly love the process of making my clients feel beautiful. I’ve learned that the most rewarding part of my work isn’t the money, but seeing the joy on my clients’ faces and knowing that I’ve helped them feel their best.

Now, in 2025, I’m fully committed to my craft. I expanded with being a content creator working with brands & networking with like minded individuals as that was something I always wanted to do. I knew going down this path will aid in my growth. I’m in love with the beauty industry. I’m constantly striving to learn more and grow as a makeup artist. I will never stop investing in myself and my business. My focus is to elevate both my skills and my clients’ experiences, and my goal is always to improve. I believe it’s about building lasting relationships with my clients and ensuring that they always leave feeling satisfied and confident. I like to tie in products I gain from brands with my craft to teach others as well.

As I continue to grow my business, I tell my clients: “It’s your face I want you to feel good inside and out—I’m just here to help.” I’m always open to learning, and my journey is only just beginning. I am so excited to see where my passion for makeup will take me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were times when I struggled with anxiety and self-doubt, especially early on. I didn’t always have the support system I needed in the makeup industry. While my family was always there for me, many others around me didn’t see my potential. I had people who doubted my work, which made me question myself even more. This was hard, especially when I was just starting to build my confidence.

But over time, I realized that I couldn’t rely on others to validate my worth—I had to believe in myself. It was a tough but necessary personal lesson I had to learn as I got older . Once I started trusting in my abilities and understanding my own value, things began to shift. I grew that faith in letting God lead the way into my life asking him what is my true purpose and what can I do with it and gaining that faith in myself this helped me to stop letting others’ opinions affect my path. It wasn’t easy, but overcoming those struggles has been part of what makes this journey so fulfilling. Now, I make sure I’m surrounding myself with people who uplift me, and I stay focused on my goals rather than the doubt that others may try to impose.

We’ve been impressed with ItsbeckaJ Makeup , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

As a travel makeup artist, I’m able to bring my skills to clients not just locally, but across different states, and even internationally. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of such special moments in people’s lives and to help them feel confident and beautiful on their big day.

What sets me apart from others is my versatility. I don’t just do makeup I’m also deeply invested in content creation. Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for finding a mentor and networking is to stay authentic and open to learning. When looking for a mentor, seek someone whose work you admire and whose values align with yours. Don’t be afraid to reach out, whether it’s through social media or in person. Rejection is going to be the biggest key to your growth. I planted my seeds so now I can watch the flowers blossom it takes dedication, just like you invest in your craft you must also invest in yourself by not giving up.

Building genuine relationships is key. Networking isn’t just about gaining something it’s about creating connections and offering value in return. What has worked well for me is consistently showing up, being open to feedback, and staying true to my own vision while learning from others. Remember, the right mentor will push you to grow and challenge you to elevate your work.
