Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Barr.
Rebekah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Our parent company began business in 1991 as a medical staffing business. In the early 2000s, my ex-husband (we were married at the time) left his job and started recruiting for our parent company and focusing on Information Technology.
In 2009, I joined the company and due to the rapid growth of our Technical Division, AllStaff Technical Solutions was born. We spun off as a stand-alone woman-owned small business providing technical consulting services to Corporate Clients and Federal Government Contractors.
My ex and I divorced in 2011, but we got along well enough to keep the company afloat. He ran Business Development and I ran Operations. In 2014, he completely left the business and I took over all of it. I hired new leaders, worked to change the culture of the company, and doubled the size.
In 2016, we had the opportunity to acquire successful medical staffing company that we grew out of to become one stronger company with three divisions. Doing business now as AllStaff Solutions, we are a WBENC certified Woman Owned Small Business providing staffing and subcontracting solutions in the areas of healthcare, Federal IT, and commercial IT.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but I don’t think smooth roads exist. Every road has bumps, turns, potholes, etc. Sometimes you can see them from a distance and swerve to avoid them, and other times they surprise you and wreak havoc.
I started out my career out of school as a speech-language pathologist and never dreamed that I would open my own business or be anywhere near the business or IT world. On a personal note, I also never imaged that I would get divorced. Those years during and after my divorce were incredibly difficult. I was under a lot of stress, there was a lot of new responsibility thrown on me and I was put in situations that were way out of my comfort zone.
In retrospect though, I would not change a thing. Those bumps in the road woke me up and taught me lessons and skills that I would never have gained if I stayed on the smooth road that I was on.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Allstaff Technical Solutions – what should we know?
As I mentioned before, we are a WBENC certified Woman-Owned Small Business and we provide staffing and subcontracting solutions for our client. We specialize in three main areas: Healthcare, Federal IT, and Commercial IT.
We are a unique firm in that we are small and intimate, making us much more of a boutique staffing company. We are known for our ethics and integrity (in an often unethical and dishonest industry), the superb talent that we are able to identify and provide to our clients, and the way we treat our employees. Our employees, although we often never meet them, feel connected and like they are part of our family. We strive hard to provide the very best, white-glove treatment, to our employees. This is what sets us apart from others. If oyou check out our Glassdoor rating and read the comments/reviews and compare it to our competitors, you’ll see what I mean.
