Today we’d like to introduce you to Recrissha Doxie.
Recrissha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
First of all, I would like to thank you for this recognition and taking the time to speak to me. God has definitely given me the vision for my business but, I would remiss if I didn’t acknowledge my biggest influence… my grandmother. I grew up in the small town of Florence, Alabama. It wasn’t quite known for fashion nor did we have any major department stores. However, my grandmother would take us grandkids shopping and I completely fell in love with all things fashion related. I would be so inspired by the ensembles she would put together. As I aged, so did my passion for fashion and shopping. After high school, I first relocated to Oklahoma which I got a grasp on different fashion. Then I relocated to Hampton, VA where I resided and realized my affinity for retail fashions, shopping and clothing was more than just a hobby. It might sound cliche to say, but it was ultimately my destiny. After spending some time in Virginia and acquiring a sizable wardrobe, I decided to relocate back to my native home. Upon doing so, I knew I wanted to open a fashion boutique.
Although, I also knew it could potentially be costly and require sacrifices, I was unsure if I would be able to make it happen due to being a single mother… with my goal in mind, I continued in my pursuit of acquiring my business. I began to do a significant amount of research, and in the meantime, I began making customized bedazzled shoes, named “Creative Kicks.” Even after having a good reception with Creative Kicks, my boutique dream was still undeniable. I prayed to God, and in a moment I knew the fear had been relinquished and the reward would outweigh any risk. So I began selling clothes to friends and hot flea markets. I would also rent buildings to host sip n shops. I would sign up to be a vendor at any event to get my name out there. I later turned the game room in my home into a boutique, and customers would come to shop at all times.
As I began to gain traction, the more inventory I would move. I knew it was only a matter of before I would need to get a storefront. I worked very hard to establish my business while continuing to work a full-time job. No matter how hard it got, I kept going. There were a lot of sleepless nights, and being disconnected with my family, but it had all been worth it. This is something that I had wanted and I understood the sacrifices that had to be made to sustain it. I wanted this for me, a potential legacy for my daughter, and in remembrance of my grandmother, that told me “you can never go wrong with a beautiful pair of white pearls”, hence the name “White Pearlz Boutique”.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! It actually has been a very bumpy road, but my faith in God has allowed me to persevere, and I’ve truly been astounded by the strides I’ve made. Its been humbling, this process of acquiring my own boutique. However, I am forever grateful because it also demanded tremendous growth along the way. Business in general is challenging. I went from selling clothes to friends and outside at hot flea markets to sitting as a vendor at every fashion show or event. Taking a RISK is a challenge in itself, added with the fear of thinking you will lose. That’s why I believe it is so important to put all your faith in God and he will make a way to overcome all your fears. At times, my mind was my greatest enemy. I could talk myself out of doing what I felt God was calling me to do. Once I let go and let GOD everything fell into place. The biggest obstacle that I have faced to date was just as I was receiving the keys to my building. My biggest supporter, my inspiration, my grandmother had a significant decline in her health, and it was only one week later after receiving my keys that she passed away. I was truly devastated. I wanted to quit however, with prayer God gave me the strength to continue on. Because of my grandmother I will never let White Pearlz Boutique diminish.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with White Pearlz Boutique – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
White Pearlz Boutique is online boutique that sells women apparel of all sizes and makes women feel good wearing the apparel. I worked very hard for this brand that is why it means so much to me. As a business owner, I want each woman to feel confident and complete while wearing White Pearlz Boutique Apparel. I have had countless customers tag me in photos, send messages, and show me enormous support. I’m very grateful for that. I feel complete knowing my customers are satisfied.
I feel like my business stands out in different aspects, but I would say, my models have been a significant part of the equation. They have helped me tremendously. Most boutiques have one model or ambassador to model their clothes. I have rotated at least 35 or more from modeling pictures, videos, fashion shows, and my online auction via Facebook. I started an auction called White Pearlz Boutique: Name Your Own Price Live Auction where you bid on inventory from the boutique. The most views I had was 20k viewers that drew in a lot of customers. I’m truly thankful and blessed to have my models support me; they truly have been instrumental in my success. I am very proud to have these models, they believed in my vision, supported it and for that, I’m truly thankful.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans is to empower other women that have dreams to do the same, to go out and start a business of their own. I have recently started a women’s group in the Shoals area. Unfortunately, we couldn’t upload our picture at the time due to COVID-19, but the group is called Sistas in Business and these are from the Shoals and the surrounding area that are in business that would like to encourage by sharing their own unique story. We are starting a sisterhood! Business is hard, but just relating to other women with the same goals and different visions makes it easy sometimes. Right now, I’m going to continue my business online until my daughter graduates from high school. I realized time with her is so very important to me. Once she is settled, I will be getting another storefront. The location is not concrete, we’ll see what God has in store for me. What I do know is my story is not done. God is not done with me yet. Stay tuned.
