Meet The Regenerate Society, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Wright, Nehemiah Horace, Briauna Perryman, Sheleka Laseter and Abby Martin

Starting as just an idea in 2014, The Regenerate Society began as just an group of creatives coming together to support each other. Inspired by a wrestling collective known as D-Generation X. This group included wrestlers of many different divisions and styles coming together to cause havoc and chaos in their business, which they not only achieved but overachieved. The effect was felt not just in their industry but was large enough to cause waves and change the entire landscape of television. Seeing what a group of “degenerates” could do, the idea came about by repurposing this word and wording what a group of “regenerates” could do. During a time where our generation is viewed to be declining, the Regenerate Society came together looking to regenerate hope and inspire purpose in the generations to come and viewpoints surrounding them.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course not, working with a group of leaders, there will always be disagreements along the way. What helps is knowing that we all have a strong passion for the organization along with being God-lead. Our main struggles come from us being a group of young leaders trying to break generational barriers and infiltrate systems that have been in place for centuries. Our goal is to have influential people pass the torch to us so that we can provide a platform for others to succeed. This is something that breads growth for us personally and for the community and growth is never comfortable or easy.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
We are a 501 (c)(3) organization run by a group of creatives, business owners, community leaders and influencers running a non-profit dedicated to regenerating the city through our seven initiatives that we call “Divisions of Influence”.
– Activism

– Business

– Community

– Creativity

– Health & Wellness

– Outreach

– Spirituality

Everything we do, we try to throw a creative twist on it. Whether it be an album release party where we collected water for Flint or the Hurricane Relief Block Party or even the BET Awards style Black Excellence Awards that we had celebrating local Black talent that normally don’t get recognition.

We are most proud of bringing 400+ people out to our Juneteenth Festival in 2019! We connected with so many different organizations and leaders around the city which helped us with our main goal, UNITY.

What were you like growing up?
We all went to University of Alabama at Birmingham. Everyone had their own niche that they mastered. Wesley is in entertainment and inspirational rapping, Nehemiah is a tech wizard, Sheleka is a phenomenal photographer and curator, Briauna plans events and does marketing, and Abby’s passion for mentorship is unmatched. Our CEO Wesley Wright began to think it would be a super team if a group of amazing individuals came together for a common cause. The team was formed and the rest is history!
