Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald Degraffenreaidt.
Hi Reginald, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
TheEPiCFoundation is a grassroots 501c3 nonprofit. We see the woeful lack of control minority communities have over their health and finances, and we’re doing something about it. Our mission is bringing resources together. That’s why our name is TheEPiCFoundation!
We’re a platform of empowerment. You and your family deserve access to specialty healthcare professionals and financial advisors. We’re building and partnering with other organizations to bring the power of awareness, help, resources, and sponsorships to minority communities like yours.
It’s past time for minorities to receive the support we deserve. We’re dedicated to pouring everything we have into minority communities.
Families who can’t get access to education due to health and financial roadblocks. Families who need empowerment to take ownership of their money and health.
If we take action together, we’ll change the world. For good.
We support our community in three ways: College scholarships for minority male high school seniors, programs for financial literacy, and educational programs on healthcare disparities in minority communities.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a rewarding journey, but one that has required deep faith, perseverance, and unwavering support from our local community. Launching a 501(c)(3) takes grit and true passion to get your mission off the ground. Along the way, many people likely thought we were crazy, or even a joke.
Raising funds from companies has been a slow process, as trust is built brick by brick, and we’ve learned that much of this work is rooted in relationships. We are grateful to have partnered with several organizations, but we’ve also experienced unmet promises and even financial loss along the way.
Many institutions want to see visible success before they commit to support, which often means nonprofits must first rely on their own limited resources to get started. One of the greatest challenges has been finding institutions willing to help cover the administrative costs of running a nonprofit, since most want every dollar directed exclusively toward the mission itself.
Still, through faith, persistence, and community, we continue to move forward, committed to building something lasting and impactful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a sales professional in the medical device industry, with nearly two decades of experience as both a direct sales contributor and a sales leader managing teams of 20–25 direct reports. I am a visionary, builder, and creative at heart, passionate about turning ideas into engines that create impact and helping others beyond myself. I am set apart from others as I love to curate spaces, experiences, and opportunities for minority communities. Often overlooked, I see a path of helping others, to lighten their loads, and provide an experience they may never forget. I also do in out of generosity and not profit.
Outside of my professional career, I am a musician, singer, and music director specializing in choir vocals, particularly in community gatherings, celebrations, and faith-based settings. Over the years, I’ve created choirs and most recently founded a community group called EPiC to inspire and bring people together. Those efforts naturally grew into the launch of TheEPiCFoundation, a nonprofit dedicated to meeting the needs of our community.
My passion for this work is deeply personal. I was raised primarily by a single mother of two, who could not afford the cost of college. Through the blessing of an academic scholarship, I was able to earn my education, an opportunity that shaped the course of my life. I am most proud that today, through TheEPiCFoundation, I am committed to paying that blessing forward by creating opportunities for others.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Atlanta is its rich history and vibrant culture. The city has a unique blend of diversity, creativity, and freedom that creates an energy you really can’t find anywhere else. For me, Atlanta represents hope and empowerment, especially for African Americans, because it’s a place where opportunity and community go hand in hand.
On a personal note, I’m a big foodie, so I love the food scene here. And from a practical standpoint, being able to take a direct flight from Atlanta to almost anywhere in the world makes it such a connected, global city. Overall, Atlanta embodies both possibility and progress, and that’s why I feel so proud to call it home.
