Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Clor.
Renee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a professionally trained makeup artist from Los Angeles California. Very long story short, I got my start as a freelance artist booking anything from editorial photo shoots, fashions shows, weddings, special events and television programs. Over the past five years I have made my passion for makeup artistry my main focus. I am also a licensed cosmetologist. Professionally trained from a Paul Mitchell school I gained my experience in Beverly Hills with an AMAZING team at Jim Wayne Salon (I have to give him a shout out. I’d be nothing if he and his crew never gave me a chance!) There I earned her title as a ‘color specialist’. I have made myself a very well rounded and experienced stylist and artist. Mastering any look from traditional brides, full glamour, perfectly natural or an Avant garde look, I make sure I am always able to perfect and create a flawless service for any one of my clients. Since moving to Georgia I immediately threw myself into work and said yes to everything just so I can make some connections. I’m specializing in wedding and special events, as well as airbrush makeup. With all the freelance work I’ve accomplished in the past year I’ve managed to get hired into the prestige’s Smashbox cosmetics family as one of the company’s freelance artist and I remains to book people’s most special events leaving them feeling glamorous!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Relocating is never easy especially when you’ve been established somewhere else for a few years. After I got over the culture shock I had to just throw myself into the loop and I had to start making connections. It was rocky for sure! I’ve lost count on the amount of “no’s” id received, but I knew a yes was bound to roll around. My business is based purely off of word of mouth and the way I look at it, all it took was that once yes to get the ball rolling.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about beauty with Renee – what should we know?
Beauty With Renee is not just my business but it’s a huge part of myself and who I am. people see the words “beauty”/”makeup “and think that everything has to be full on glam style and a lot of people feel that’s that what they “NEED” to be/look like. My clients are my number one priority when it comes to my business. It is extremely important to me that I actually listen to them and not only give them what they want but make them feel good to be themselves, at the end of a service they’re still themselves just an enhanced version. My philosophy is based around my clients not feeling like they have to live/be a certain “standard’. Too often I hear brides or younger girls say “I want to look like her” or “I want to amazing! I want people to not even recognize me!’ when it comes down to it, I give my clients what they’re asking for but I find it most important that at the end of the day they’re feeling like the best version of THEMSELVES. Self-love is so scarce nowadays and I love to pass it along to other women.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I can write a list! But I won’t do that haha… to name a few, I’d have to start where all my confidence began, and that’s with my father. He’s my best friend and my whole life he always made me feel like I can be and do whatever I wanted. Whatever it may have been he was so proud of me. My dreams were limitless whenever id share things with him and my mom, and that’s because they made me feel like they can actually be achieved.
Professionally, I was a little clueless 20 year old baby in Los Angeles. What did I know!? Jim Wayne (Jim Wayne salon) took me into his salon as a receptionist, i finally got licensed and he threw me on that salon floor with my mentor whose name was wolf.
Those two I can never forget even if I wanted to. They PUSHED me and ill always be grateful for that. I don’t know if I’ve ever told them that. My family and my faith are what keep me grounded at the end of the day. Without them id be crazy I’m sure. They are my back bone, my support, my love, my everything! I can go on and on!
