Today we’d like to introduce you to Rich Maresco.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rich. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As most small businesses it started out as a vision. My passion was aviation and flying helicopters. As I saw the Atlanta area growing at exponential rates over the last 20 years and traffic becoming a major issue. I decided to explore the helicopter charter service. I specifically saw a huge growth up the GA 400 corridor and living in Cumming I decided to build a heliport (Lanier Heliport) to provide helicopter service. We have now grown into one of the premier helicopter companies in ATL area, providing VIP executive helicopter service in our executive helicopter. The Bell 206 Long Ranger. Due to the fact that there is no airport for general aviation in the Alpharetta, Forsyth County area which is densely populated we have experienced great success.

Has it been a smooth road?
We struggled a little during the economic downfall “The Great Recession ” but at the same time, Atlanta was slowly turning into the big hot spot for the Motion Picture industry. Our company is a FAA Motion Picture/TV operator and that has become a big part of our business model. I’m a SAG-AFTRA helicopter film pilot as well.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
As the Atlanta area grows the need for helicopter service will grow as well. Atlanta is a unique city as opposed to other major cities as we really don’t have any natural barriers. Atlanta just keeps spreading out in all directions. As this continues in the future helicopters will become more important for transportation needs. The Atlanta area definitely could benefit with more approved heliports in strategic locations. Currently, our heliport in Cumming and a few rooftop pads in downtown Atlanta are the really only places to land besides having to land at one of our airports. But that defeats the purpose of a helicopter we don’t need runways.
