Today we’d like to introduce you to Rich P. Evolon.
Rich P Evolon is an upcoming hip-hop artist, songwriter and entrepreneur from Peoria, Illinois.
As an outlet for self-expression, his musical journey began at only nine years old. Experiences, such as growing up with no parents were reflected in his music and his outlook on life. Finding inspiration in the personal struggles of his childhood and his community, Rich often used these experiences to master the art of storytelling and paint pictures through his lyrics.
His sound has been described as both vulnerable and gritty. Rich vows to use his music to shine light on the darkness in the world. By connecting with those who feel neglected, rejected and left out, he has organically built a fan base over the years.
Musical influences have been artists such as Eminem, J. Cole, Nipsey Hussle, T.I and Young Jeezy. These artists have an authentic and captivating way of sharing messages and moving people through their music. He believes that these artists are rare in hindsight because they aren’t afraid of going against the status quo in the name of art.
Rich sets himself apart from other rising artists by being innovative in sound and avoiding current trends in the music industry. In his eyes, it would be a disservice to be anything other than original and honest as an artist. Rich makes music to share his perspective on life. In addition to his own strides in music, he has continued to make efforts as an entrepreneur to assist other upcoming artists with his knowledge in business and connections.
Although he has opened up and performed for names such as Blac Youngsta, Cashout and Twista, his overall goal in the music industry is to simply be respected and appreciated for his work. Rich measures success, not by the amount of trophies, but by how many lives you touch and how many people you inspire to live outside normal expectations respectfully.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Coming from a small city with no big music market, no big name record labels, no opportunities for progress, it was very difficult for me to get recognized and have my music heard on a large platform. On top of that, my home life and childhood were very abusive, which is what led me to the streets and a life of crime. I would always hesitate on telling people my story because I came from nothing. I used to compare my story with other success stories, and one thing that all of them had in common is that they’d tell people where they came from, and it would be very traumatic and humble beginnings, but they also had an unbelievable ending! So that made me hesitant at first because I didn’t have the fancy cars, or big house, and big bank accounts like they did, so I felt people wouldn’t appreciate, or see any value in what I had to say, but then I started to think…I was born with crack in my system, I could’ve died! As a baby, I was left abandoned in a house crying until a neighbor found me and alerted my grandmother. I didn’t have a mother to love me and show me what love was, and I didn’t have a father to guide me, protect me, or give me a sense of dignity and authority or teach me what it means to be a man. I’ve been abused by people who were supposed to be supporting me and caring for me. I was isolated from my siblings and told that I wouldn’t amount to anything but an inmate like my father. I’ve slept outside, in abandoned houses, buildings, cars, and even a cardboard box, and I would wake up and go to school the next day like it was normal. I was locked up in jail at the age of 12, on parole by the age of 15, and in prison by the age of 17. I was born and raised in Peoria Illinois, the worst city for african americans to live in in the country! The fact that I’m still alive and breathing after witnessing so many of my peers gunned down and murdered in the streets, the fact that I’m still striving for what I believe in after so many people doubted me and left me for dead, the fact that I’m still willing to love even after all the envy and jealousy I’ve experienced, the fact that I’m still seeking to help others even though I didn’t have any support, still smiling, still grinding, still having faith, still resilient, still self sufficient, still grateful, and still confident is UNBELIEVABLE and rare in my own personal opinion. Despite the obstacles, I managed to escape the gravitational pull of my past, I decided to move from Peoria to Chicago in 2007 and made a name for myself. I exposed my music to a larger audience. I had to accomplish this feat all on my own, but I made it. I had to go misunderstood, but I made it! I knew that there was a better life for me beyond Peoria, IL. I escaped the gravitational pull of mediocrity. I currently reside in Atlanta. I’m still making music and pushing the brand Richer Prior. I just hope that my story inspires the people who come from where I’ve come from, or those in similar circumstances. I want those people to know that it doesn’t matter who’s with you or who’s against you, or what you’ve been through, as long you have faith in yourself and take action, everything will work out in your favor!
Richer Prior™️ – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Richer Prior is the name of my clothing company, but it is also the concept that embodies my lifestyle and mindset. It is a lifestyle that expresses its essence through hip hop, streetwear, content curation, and storytelling. It stands as a symbol for self-confidence, faith in oneself, and the drive to pursue one’s goals and aspirations in life. The focus is to place a higher value on things we cannot see (Passion, purpose, faith, courage, love, etc) as opposed to the things we can see (money and other physical possessions). That’s what sets the brand a part from everyone else. Richer Prior is more than a clothing brand. It speaks to a tribe of people who have a shared belief that poverty & riches reside in the mind. The brand speaks to a certain psychographic–anyone who embodies that mindset. You were rich before you made a dollar.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Getting paid to do what I love to do while helping others to do what they love to do.
