Meet Richard Brent of The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House in Macon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Brent.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Big House Foundation was formed in 2006, The Foundation purchased the house from Kirk and Kirsten West,who had lived in the house since 1993. Included in the purchase was Kirk’s personal collection of Allman Brothers Band Memorabilia. So many great people and businesses locally and afar contributed there time,materials,memorabilia,and effort into this amazing project. The Big House Museum is currently the second largest tourist attraction in Middle Georgia.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been to bumpy of a ride. With any great thing you are going to encounter challenges. We just deal with them as a team and figure it out.

Our mission is to keep the public educated about The Allman Brothers Band and Southern Rock Music.

We are very proud in the fact that we have managed to make this Museum one of the best Museums in the world! People visit us from all over the globe. They come to see where The Allman Brothers Band lived and wrote so many great songs. It truly is a step back in time once you pass through the gates here at The Big House.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Macon is the only city for a Museum like this. This is where it all began for The Allman Brothers Band.

Duane Allman was discovered as an session player in Muscle Shoals,Alabama. Phil Walden signed him to a contract with Capricorn Records. Duane put the band together in Jacksonville,Florida then all of them moved here to Macon,Georgia where Phil Walden provided Duane Allman a blank canvas to paint his masterpiece…Southern Rock.
