Meet Richard Quiñones of SB Comm Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Quiñones.

Hi Richard , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
SB Comm started in 2011, but the “why” behind it goes back further. I’ve always been drawn to technology, but what really stuck with me was how often people felt left hanging after an install—especially when they had spent real money and trusted someone to guide them. I didn’t want to build a company that just “puts in equipment.” I wanted to build a company that takes ownership, communicates clearly, and truly takes care of people.
In the early days, I wore every hat. I was doing the sales calls, the design, the installs, and the service work—sometimes all in the same day. It wasn’t glamorous, and it definitely wasn’t easy. There were struggles that come with any entrepreneur journey—pressure, uncertainty, and plenty of moments where I had to ask myself if I was doing the right thing.
What kept me moving forward wasn’t just hard work. It was a continual effort to understand how God wants us to serve others through this company. The more I leaned into that, the more it became clear: at the end of the day, this is God’s company, not mine. My job is to steward it well, keep learning, and lead in a way that honors Him by serving people the right way.
Over time, that mindset shaped everything—how we show up, how we treat clients, how we take ownership when something isn’t right, and how we build our team and process. Today SB Comm serves luxury homeowners, custom home builders, and commercial/multifamily clients across the Greater Atlanta area with smart home automation, AV, security, networking, and ongoing service.
We’re still growing, but the mission hasn’t changed: we exist so our clients never feel abandoned—and always feel taken care of.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road — not even close. In the early years especially, I was wearing every hat and trying to grow while still doing the work day-to-day. That meant long hours, constant pressure, and a lot of learning the hard way.
One of the hardest parts was the personal side. The business demanded so much of me that it ate me alive for a while not being around as much as I wanted for my kids. There were seasons where I felt like I was always working, always carrying the weight, and still feeling like I wasn’t doing enough at home.
Financially, there were real struggles too. There were times it was hard to even pay myself, which created personal cash flow issues and stress. And with that came sacrifices—missed time, missed moments, and even friendships that faded because I just didn’t have the margin I wanted to have.
I still vividly remember being in attics running wire, with the phone ringing nonstop—then having to stop what I was doing, climb down, grab my laptop, and resolve an issue on the spot. That constant switching and firefighting was exhausting, but it taught me what had to change.
Over time we learned that if we wanted to break through the ceiling most entrepreneurs hit, we had to invest in real support and real service infrastructure. That’s a big part of why we built what we have today, including our 24/7/365 remote support capabilities—so clients are taken care of, and the business isn’t dependent on one person trying to do everything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We exist so our clients never feel abandoned—and always feel taken care of. Technology should make life easier and safer, not create stress. Our mission is to bring clarity, reliability, and real support to every system we design and install.
We do that by leading with design, communicating proactively, and taking ownership from start to finish. We build systems around the client’s lifestyle (or the property’s operational needs), not around gadgets. And we don’t disappear after the install—our team is built for long-term support, including 24/7/365 remote support capabilities to troubleshoot, maintain, and keep things running.
SB Comm is a technology integration company based in the Greater Atlanta area. We design, install, and support smart home and smart building systems including security and monitoring, surveillance and access control, networking/Wi‑Fi and structured wiring, audio/video and home theaters, lighting control and automation, and ongoing service plans.
We serve both luxury residential clients and multifamily/MDU communities. On the residential side, we’re known for a white-glove experience, clean installs, and systems that are easy to use and dependable. On the MDU side, we’re known for delivering scalable solutions that support property operations and resident experience—plus the coordination and follow-through it takes to execute across multiple units without chaos.
If there’s one thing readers should know, it’s this: we’re built for the long game—quality work, proactive communication, and support you can actually count on.
