Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Schrader.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My wife and I saw a Kona Ice truck in action at our local high school football game. My wife loved the concept and inquired about the truck for our area. We thought it would be a really cool way to teach our three children about entrepreneurship. Next thing you know we’re at a Kona Konvention, we experienced the self-serve Flavorwave and then I’m returning home on I-75 behind the wheel of a Kona Ice truck, taking it home to Atlanta. Our first season in 2011 was a blast and we’ve added trucks on a continual basis since then. We currently have 5 trucks and 2 minis. The mini is a smaller version of the truck, which allows us to participate in indoor venues.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any business, it’s not always smooth, but when you persevere and work hard, things will work out. It’s been a great journey, we’ve been blessed and we love assisting our community in fundraising.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Kona Ice is a tropical-themed mobile shaved-ice truck. Customers can serve themselves from our signature Flavorwave or enjoy additional flavors stored inside the truck. Anything from tigers blood to pickle juice, customers can enjoy any combination of flavors their hearts desire! We also make it our mission to give back to the community we serve, so we donate partial proceeds from our events to non-profits in the community – schools, youth sports, churches, food banks and many other charities in the Atlanta metro area
